With Lee Davenport questioning how one boat could have made 3,000 patrols, I thought I'd start off easy and show him how one boat could have made the 2000TH patrol...  Here be the James K. Polk SSBN-645 proudly displaying her 2000th patrol banner - got it now Lee???  LOL... Music?  "Since I Fell For You" - enjoy!

That was not the 2000th patrol of that individual boat.
That was the 2000th patrol made by the boomer fleet!
41 boomers times 4 each years times 25 years is 4100
thats not counting all of them but maybe you'll get the idea
that one boat could never do 2000 patrols

OK, How many boomer patrols did you make? I did 1 (one). Let's see how close we get to....over 2500.

Thanks Don. Although my math is not very good.....Okay it really sucks, I couldn't figure how that was a vialble number for one boat....As you said; 2 patrols a year, divided by 2000 patrols.....Hell that's 8277 years for one boat to make 2000 patrols. Never happen. I agree with Lee. Us Enginemen are smarter than we look

He did figure it out. That's why the TH is in bold letters. That's a lot of patrols though. I'm getting older and one of our 600B patrols was a significant one. Can't recall why, but it was some patrol anniversary. That would have been around mid 60s. They taped all the phone circuits during drills, WSRTs, and normal evolutions. The tapes and copies of all the log books supposedly now reside in the National Archives. I know that because I had a bad habit of making bird calls on the phones when things got boring. Had my butt reamed out by the XO and Weaps and they told me it was because the conversations were being sent to the National Archives for posterity sake. I'd sure like to hear some of that stuff again.

I had to PING on Crystal as I am so far behind, I've lost count.
A few more notes, that may be of interest, but most likely it's just more verbiage.
For those counting, I made 0 boomer patrols, yep ZERO. But I get into some Blind Man's Bluff fun as in Fast Attack Tough.
I was recruited into USSVI by Tommy Cox, via Pat Householder. Pat invited me to a ceremony at Bangor Sub Base,
in spring of 2001. It was for dedication of Deterrent Park and the completion of the 3500th boomer patrol.
I've forgotten the boat that made it. One of Crystal's photographs was taken that day. I will try to attach.
And be careful how you berate old EM's as I are one tooooo.
