Maybe it was the uniforms. But, I wish the Cubs all the luck in the world. They did good and I hope they can make some history. geno.

The last time the Cubs won the NL pennant was 1945, with Joe Cronin as the manager. The last time the Indians won the World Series was 1948, with Lou Boudreau as the manager. The last time the Indians won the AL pennant was 1997, with Mike Hargrove as the manager. Just in case anyone is interested You're right, 1997, not 1957. Damn fumble fingers. It was still Mike Hargrove as manager. Sorry. Edited by JrKrup, Skimmer 2016-10-24 5:49 PM

But the Cubs certainly deserve to finally win the series. Bottom line is I reckon I will be happy whichever team wins!! Steamboat sends

Master and Commander Posts: 1576 Location: Wollongong, NSW | Subject: RE: WS I get amused with the term 'World Series' when the game is only for US teams. Other games have World Cups; there are the most likely to win teams/sides but occasionally there can be surprise results. To be very flippant - started off playing rounders before I started to play cricket.

COMSUBBBS Posts: 2974 Location: Liverpool, England | Subject: RE: WS Don, Cricket may well be an English sport but this is one Englishman who does not share the national passion for the game. Forced to play this boring game during my school years and to mindlessly admire its sportsmanship echoing to the traditional click of leather (the ball) on willow (the bat) made me despair. It is played with passion by most member states of the former British Commonwealth especially Australia, West Indies, India and Pakistan. God alone knows why because it has the most ridiculous positional names known to man such as Silly Mid On, Silly Mid Off, Square Leg, Deep Gully and Stumps amongst many other equally stupid names. Then there are the so-called Test matches which can boringly go on for five days before getting a result. There was a more leisurely time in our history when they could go on for twelve days. Thank the Lord I didn't have to endure those endless mind-boggling games. Cricket: As explained to a foreigner... You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game! Try to make sense of that if you can. But it's okay because it beats the hell out of me too. Pedro Edited by Pedro 2016-10-29 8:59 PM

COMSUBBBS Posts: 2974 Location: Liverpool, England | Subject: RE: WS Someone is getting their monitor's knickers in a twist over nothing . The paragraph on explaining cricket to a foreigner has been around for a long time and yes, it was lifted from the internet. I never claimed ownership but simply inserted it for amusement purposes. In fact, I did stipulate in the last sentence of the above post, that like the game itself, the explanation beat the hell out of me. While we are at it, any grammatical errors would have to be attributed to the anonymous author. It could well be John Cleese or Michael Palin for all I know. Pedro
