Was cruising through some of the online comics I read and one talked about riding the trains/subway in Tokyo and made me think; I've done that. How about you? Though I'd probably be lost today.

Clean weren't they? Especially when I compared them to New York City Subways of the sixties. As a matter of fact I seem to remember thinking they were just as crowded, but immaculate. The other thing was the response to a police whistle and a baton point. I saw several taxi's immediately pull over when a policeman singled them out.

Ditto   May of 1968 one time.  The A Bomb museum there was quite an eye opening experience for me.  Regardless on your views on the justification for the bomb seeing what those people experienced was something I can never forget.

While in downtown Nagasaki we witnessed a major protest against our involvement in Vietnam.  The crowd was building up into a frenzy, and we were glad to take refuge in a large department store,  the clerks in the store saw what was going on and gave us a safe haven to retreat.

Never made it to Tokyo, but when the carriers came in to Yokosuka me and my buddies got out of town.  We took the train to Yokohama and went barhopping one night.  The locals on the train went out of their way make sure we got off at the right stop.

We ran into an American Japanese family visiting the "old country". They were ever so happy to have fellow Americans to talk to. That was some place close to Yokohama, can't remember where. I still remember the little girl saying: "Look Daddy, sailors!"
