Not so sure of that.
First the Captains name was Dixon not Pickering. (Data?)
Second what about the blue light seen on shore after the attack to signal its success? Some one had to be alive to send that.

Story here in Charleston, the last I heard, was that the crew smothered from lack of O2 due the burning of candles. They fell asleep with the lit candles and never woke up. The air intake tube was shut. |
