At random: The late Capt. Don Ulmer, USN SS (Ret.), and noted submarine author, began his military career by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1947 and in 1949 while serving as an electrical technician E-4 aboard the submarine USS Clamagore, he was transferred to the Naval Academy. When he asked his commanding officer why he was being sent to Annapolis, the skipper replied, "I don't think you're smart enough to make E-5 and I need the bunk space." Ulmer graduated in 1954 and in 1967 returned to command Clamagore, possibly the only officer to command a U.S. warship having served on it as an enlisted man.

What has happened to our country recently that has enabled such hate and vitriol?
I experienced a much different ethic in Scotland... the EU has opened borders for many Europeans to travel and work there. I experienced absolutely NO discrimination towards them, in fact most Scots were quite interested to meet them and learn where they are from and ask about their country.
Why are we so different?

We haven't changed, our increasing ability to capture and proudly post despicable racist images and videos in high definition worldwide instantaneously has allowed everyone to view us performing in our natural habitats. Soon, specialty daughters/sons of groups will hire artists to cast and erect statues and sell pop-up books for sale/display in public parks, to teach their/our children the importance of hate.
