Wasn't the proprietor of Hymie's Ratskeller in Charleston South Carolina supposedly an Officer on the U-Boat that got fresh fruit and vegetables from the residents of Pawley's Island South Carolina during the war? I seem to remember that from somewhere in the deep dark recesses of my mind.

There were/are stories that during WWII a German submarine was sunk off the Carolina coast and bottles and cartons floated to the surface with the emblem on them from Coburg Dairy a local milk producer here in Chasn.

I could certainly accept that a Uboat purchased supplies up until the end of 1941. After that, questionable. Re-stock supples before heading back to the killing grounds. No rationing, fresh produce; paradise!
