At random: "I propose to you a new arm of war, as formidable as it is economical. Submarine navigation, which has been sometimes attempted, but as all know without results, owing to want of suitable opportunities, is now a problematical thing no more." - Brutus de Villeroi in a letter to President Lincoln, 1862

A boomer at the sub base?  How often did that happen?  Any other FBMs get up past the RR bridge?

Many Boomers went to the SubBase from the shipyard before final deployments to home ports. Many were commissioned there.

Damn fire watches. I hated standing them.

NEVER saw that 63-67.  It would have been "something".

Fortunately cooks and stewards were exempt from the topside watchbill though we did have to stand them for our topside qualification signatures. (3 to 5 watches I think, can't remember) Interesting that cooks, stewards and mess cooks had to work during meals and, oh, before and after meals too!

I would say I remember our 6 on 12 off but the cook and mess cranks certainly spent more time on "watch" than we did.
