....has passed away.
I first met Steve, along with quite a few of you guys back in 2004 when Steve was my NYC Host along with his lovely wife Jeanie.
He showed me around NYC, and boy did he ever....he knew the place like the back of his hand.  I was gobsmacked at the knowledge he was keen to tell me about his beloved city.  He even butted in to a conversation on the train telling someone how to get somewhere....'get of this train at 'x' station, cross over to platform '2', 3 stops later, get off and wait for the $ train.. and it's the second last stop'
Then on another journey I hear all this shouting in the carriage, he tells me not to make eye contact, but, being the tourist, I had to look over....some crazy guy and he sees me looking at him...starts to come over but thankfully it was our time to get off as he starts rambling at me.
He was the only guy who willingly allowed me to go out with his daughter for a night out around town  ( don't be shocked when I say it was a lovely night ...and a platonic one! lol ) whilst others, noticeably Doc Gardner, put their daughters in the Witness Protection system. ( damn you Doc! )
You, we, have lost a lovely man.
Rest In Peace AtoZ

We are getting fewer in number and it hurts. Steve was one of the "gang of four".

Along the shore I spy a ship As she set out to sea;
She spreads her sails and sniffs the breeze
And slips away from me.
I watch her fading image shrink,
As she moves on and on, Until at last she’s but a speck,
Then someone says, “She’s gone.”
Gone where? Gone only from our sight
And from our farewell cries;
That ship will somewhere reappear to other eager eyes.
Beyond the dim horizon’s rim, resound the welcome drums,
And while we’re crying, There she goes!
They’re shouting, Here she comes!
We’re built to cruise for but a while
Upon the trackless sea
Until one day we sail away into infinity.

Oh, Lordy, say it ain't so! Steve was such a good guy, a Shipmate 1st class to all of us. He never "acted his age", though he had more longevity than most who post regularly here. I recall meeting him at the Bash at the Ranch. He just posted here this Tuesday. I wonder what took him so quick?
Steve will be missed,
Rest your Oar Shipmate.

I was lucky enough to feed them a lobster roll on trip thru Maine a few years ago. Good people!

So sad. I met Steve on a number of occasions and had great times with him. Met him first at a Torsk Work Weekend.
So sad for Jeannie and the family. What a wonderful man.
Steve will be sorely missed.

Steve was quite a character.  His wife was charming.  Wonders never cease.

I ran in Steve numerous times over the years, airport lounges, USSVI Conventions, Groton clubhouse gatherings.  You KNEW he was in the room.  Always had an opinion, and a good argument to back it up.

Time is thinning the old internet crowd for sure.

The picture seems like it was taken  yesterday.

It was the release of the Submarine Postage stamp occasion

I think that either John Wynn or my wife took it.

I'm so sorry to hear that. He was just on this board recently...I met Steve after I joined the North Jersey Base of USSVI. We had a instant connection of coming from NYC, and he was a lot of fun to be with. He always had an opinion on what ever was being discussed.

Rest your oar Steve, we have the watch.

Very sad to hear this.  Steve's been around since day one not just here but way back when I stumbled upon Martini's board.  He was a very smart guy - I'm not talking about meaningless arguments on a sub BBS, but he was truly a smart man - always fun to talk too - great storyteller - incredible memory.  And like many of you have said, his wife is a sweetheart!

This one stings!

RIP Steve...

Me too Don. Had a long talk with Ol' Goat last night about him. Maybe since I'm creeping up in years too that it brings it closer. I talked with Steve from time to time on the phone. Always at the top of his game and sharp as a tack. RIP Stave.
