We lost another Sirago shipmate. The forth since the beginning of the year...

Wallace Silverthorn from the 45-48 Duty Section passed away May 23, 2017.  An obituary is below.  He served on Sirago as an S2 in 1947.

Sailor, rest your oar.

Wallace P. Silverthorn, age 88, of McHenry, passed away May 23, 2017 in Florida surrounded by his loving family. He was born, January 4, 1929 in Niagara, New York to Wallace E. and Pearl (Golds) Silverthorn. Wallace was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving for six years. During his time in the service he met his future wife Virginia Mielczarek at a Roller Rink. They were married in Chicago on November 25, 1950. After serving in the Navy, Wallace was employed as an engineer for Kux Machines in Des Plaines. Wallace was a loving dad and a doting grandpa and great grandpa. He was a jack of all trades, maintaining his yard and dabbling in mechanics. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and golf.

He is survived by his children, Dennis (Nancy) Beran, Sandy (Gary) Sibilsky, Sharon (Luis) Rivera; twelve grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia on February 20, 2010; a son, Gerald Beran; and a daughter, Cynthia Karr.
