Atlantic 01/21/74: The U.S. Navy says it is investigating possible sabotage in the cutting of
electrical wires in the USS Spadefish (SSN-668),which is undergoing a one-year overhaul in
the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Virginia. Electrical wires on the submarine had been cut several
times since the fall of 1973, prompting the Navy to investigate.

1-21-1954 Launching of USS Nautilus (SSN 571), first nuclear submarine, at Groton, Conn.

1-21-1961 USS George Washington completes first operational voyage of
fleet ballistic missile submarine staying submerged 66 days.
