At random: USS SKATE and USS SEADRAGON, after affecting a historic rendezvous under the ice, surfaced together at the North Pole through an opening in the ice on August 1962. What really happened: We didn't surface together, Skate surfaced first. Then we (Seadragon) fired yellow flares forward and aft so Skate could tell us how we were lined up. Remember, under-ice was primitive in these days. Skate called back down rapidly that one flare surfaced on her starboard side and the other to port. She requested we reposition before vertical surfacing. We did. - Coyote (Owen Carlson)

Good to see you mate but given I follow you on FB, didn't notice the absence that much.  I wonder how much longer this medium will be valid.  This could easily move into a Facebook closed group like so many other "bbs" sites do.  It's handy to have FB on your phone - quick and easy - and not much effort to post a photo (great advantage really).

But then again, FB isn't for everybody - nothing is tracked here.

And I still have the bottle of scotch you most generously left - unopened - awaiting your return to Estados Unitas (do you think you may every come back?)

Don, That's exactly why I don't have a facebook account, or a twitter account. Social media is only good for those who are tracking it's clients, so they can make money off their participation...

Yep, Alison and I are planning one more driving trip in the next couple of years, San Fran up to Washington across the top along the border to Maine and surrounds, back down through NY state to Missouri, up through Rapid City then Yellowstone, down to Yosemite and then back into San Fran or something along those lines!

Probably mid 2019.

Pete,
That sounds like a great route, if you like to drive. My wife and I would be divorced by time we hit Sacramento.

Do continue to visit here. Just to keep Don honest, and the scotch bottle sealed. Patti does occasionally post when Ric will get off the computer long enough to allow her to use it. Which is apparently rarely. Those Stewards did always hog the good stuff.

I have my own computers. Patti has two iPads and a laptop of her own. She can post when she wants. I'm not stopping her.

I got to knew three girls from Munich that traveled together, two were travel agents.  It seemed that the Bavarians that visited had four must sees.  San Francisco, Yosemite, Palm Springs, and Las Vegas.  The two travel agents also added Hawaii, Los Angeles was mainly for entry, departure, and layover. My best friend who was working overseas in Munich had me meet them at the airport.  He used them for all business travel in Europe.  He told them they could crash at my house.  I held a sign at the airport that said Welcome Ida, Brita, and Rita.  Funniest thing was they needed my help at car rental because Ida had never driven an automatic.  It would have been a nuisance, but the three were quite good looking and hilarious to show around and experience SoCal culture

Ida owned a sandwich shop in downtown Munich and couldn't get over margaritas and nachos.  She said she was going to add nachos and melted cheese to her shop.  Sure enough I visited them next year and dined on nachos withing sight of the glockenspiel.

Based on all the latest news, time will tell if Facebook can survive the long haul.

Tom,

Good point. Nobody cares for sole domination of any particular market and Facebook is no exception to the rule. It's unhealthy, in that it subdues healthy competition and radically restricts personal choice.. I had no desire to know the daily comings and goings of all my contacts and requested a cancellation of my account. That lasted all of three days and now for some reason, best known to them, I am still being bombarded with alerts to God knows how many notifications for me on their network. I say f*** Facebook, I'm a free agent and sincerely hope that this BBS remains the same. If it is a question of money then let us all rationally discuss it as to how such a takeover can best be prevented.

Don't believe a word that damn Maniac says, he speaks with forked tongue!
And as for your itinerary, pfffttt......get out there more and enjoy that wonderful country!  Think I have either driven or rode, about 50,000 kms around the US, loved every 'k' of it!
