USS F-4 leaves Honolulu Harbor for her morning training dive and fails to return to port.
All 21 hands aboard died as the hull flooded through corroded rivets into the forward battery well.
One man, James Morton Hoggett ET/3 had been left ashore, as was the custom with the Honolulu boats, while the morning dives were made.
Our first submarine lost. Hand Salute! Two!
