McMULLEN, Ernest Stuart ,89, passed peacefully on February 6, 2018, while in residence at Sidney Creek, a memory care center. He was born in Clearwater, Florida on June 1, 1928. After completing his lower education, he attended Georgia Military Academy. He then served 7 years in the US Navy. He qualified in submarined in USS Irex (SS-482) in 1947 and was SN(SS) when released by the Navy. Stuart was very patriotic, loving his country and proud to be a veteran. While serving in the Navy, Stuart married and became the father of Linda Pemberton and Michael McMullen. A subsequent marriage resulted in the birth of Thomas, Shawn, David, and James McMullen. Living on the Central Coast of California, he then married Juanita Mulliner, becoming the step-father to Pamela, Mark, Lori and Kathryn Mulliner. Stuart's many grand- children include: David and John McMullen, David Pemberton, Denae and Austin McMullen, Wesley and Andrew Greene, Aimee and Steven Mulliner, Robert McConaghy, Miles Kiffman and Darius Bolayog. He is also suvived by his brother, Stephen Stevenson McMullen and Deborah Miranda. Stuart was being a member of the Greater Pismo Beach Kiwanis Club for 40 years, having served as past president from 1978 to 1979. Stuart served on the Board of Directors for the Arroyo Grande Police Department's Diversion Program for juveniles. Published in San Luis Obispo County Tribune on Feb. 18, 2018


LUCAS, Lawrence, of Red Bluff, CA, took his leave on March 13, 2018, which was his father Pat's birthday. Born October 1, 1939. Larry led an incredibly full life. Growing up in Red Bluff, he was an avid hunter and boat and Sacramento River enthusiast with knowledge of every inch of this beautiful area. After graduating from Red Bluff High School in 1959, he joined the Navy where he attended nuclear power school. He served as a submariner on the nuclear submarine USS Thomas A. Edison. In 1968 he married the love of his life, Marilyn. It was a love affair spanning over 50 years. They had three children, a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, "adopted" children, a brother and many friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. Anyone who knew Larry will remember him for his wealth of knowledge, passion for cooking, and his serving and giving spirit. We are thankful for the love and lessons he shared throughout his life. An open house celebration of Larry life will be held on June 16th between 4-7pm at his daughters’ home in Red Bluff. Published in Redding Record Searchlight on Apr. 1, 2018


CRAPELLA, Richard J., 58, of Totowa at rest in Wayne on March 29, 2018. Beloved husband of 19 years to the former Joan La Rosa of Totowa. Loving Father of Alicia Fargnoli & her husband Christopher of Tinton Falls, Gina Marie Balevski of Totowa, Kristina Balevski of Totowa, and Richard Crapella of Jacksonville, FL. Dear brother of Rosemary Arnell & her husband Michael of Totowa, Russell Crapella of Little Falls, and Raymond Crapella of Totowa. Devoted grandfather of Christopher Fargnoli, Gabriella Fargnoli, Anthony Bullaro,and Ariana Bullaro. Also survived by his 3 beloved pet dogs Sophia, Teddy, and Angelina. Born in Paterson, he lived in Totowa for most of his life. He was a Machinist for Vibra Screw Inc, Totowa. Prior to that he was a pro carpenter as well as a pastry chef. He was very active in the Boro of Totowa and very civic minded. He helped plan the Memorial Day Parade and volunteered his time and cooked for the American Legion and veteran and parade functions. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Totowa Fire Department, Riverview Park Co for nine years. He was a United States Navy veteran and was a nuclear submarine specialist. Richard was a member and 2nd vice commander for the American Legion Post #227, Totowa and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was a former member of the B.P.O.E. Passaic Valley Elks Lodge #2111, Totowa and was a graduate of the French Culinary Institute, NY as a pastry chef. His croissants were amazing. He loved to cook for his family and cherished time spent with them. He also enjoyed playing billiards and tending to his vegetable garden. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Committal to follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery Crematory Chapel, Paterson. Friends may visit Tuesday 4-8 PM. LEE, Robert, 76, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 after a short but hard-fought battle with Leukemia. Bob was born in Jefferson City, MO to the late Clay and Edith Snodgrass. He graduated from Coral Gables High School. Bob served with the United States Navy in the submarine service from 1963 to 1971. He worked at the Kewaunee Nuclear Power plant until his retirement in 2003. He was a member o the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Sturgeon Bay, WI. He is a past member of Coral Gables Yacht Club, Florida; the Windjammers Sailing Club of Suamico, WI; the Manitowoc Marina Yacht Club of WI; and most recently he was a member of the Punta Gorda Sailing Club of FL. Bob was also an active member of the Boy Scouts of America as a child, and continued with the scouts as a Scout Master when his son was young. Bob is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Hessel Snodgrass; children, Bob Snodgrass II (Wendy) and Kim Luedtke (Joel); 6 grandchildren, Cole, Jesse, and Montana Snodgrass and Joel, Evan, and Seth Luedtke; and 2 step grandchildren Evin and Heather; and his much beloved cat Fred. The family will hold memorial services in both Florida and Wisconsin at later dates.


PIATEK, Ralph Stanley, EMC(SS), USN, Ret., died March 11, 2018, He was born August 12, 1923. He was a retired Navy veteran (1939-1969), serving with the Atlantic Fleet on board the USS Augusta where he met President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and General George S. Patton. He volunteered for submarine duty serving with the Pacific Fleet on board the USS Atule, USS Toro, USS Pickerel, USS Saury, USS Picuda, USS Guitaro, USS Sabalo, and the USS Blackfin. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1960 and transferred to the Fleet Reserve Association. He was called up twice during the Vietnam Conflict with a final discharge from the Navy in 1969 with 30 years of service. Ralph worked for the Defense Contracting Agency from 1960 in Milwaukee, WI until his retirement in 1978. He and Iona moved from Menomonee Falls, WI where they had lived for almost 20 years, to New Mexico after retiring. He was active after retirement starting VFW Posts 5890 and 2726, serving as Post Commander of both Posts. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Fleet Reserve and DAV. He worked as the State of New Mexico VFW Department Service Officer assisting veterans and their families obtain benefits from the VA. He saw a need at local cemeteries and at the Santa Fe National Cemetery where veterans were being interred without military honors. With 15 of his close friends he started the New Mexico Honor Guard, and over the next 15 years they performed burial honors for over 3,000 veterans. He also started the Military Speakers Bureau where he donated hundreds of hours and donated books and materials to the local Rio Rancho schools, giving lectures on World War II, Korea and Vietnam. At the time of his death he was working on information on the USS Maine and USS Olympia. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Iona, in 2007. He is survived by sons, Stephen and his partner Jodie, Geoffrey and his wife Marissa; daughter, Irene; daughter, Catherine and her partner Bobby and son, Brian and his wife Tracy. His is survived by grandchildren, Loretta, Tonya, Anna, Rebecca, Rachel, Marina and Melanie; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Kaylee, Leanna, Angela, Mathew, Aiden, Jordan, Brian, Holly, Hailee and Jayden. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Liberal Catholic Church, 1701 Tulip Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124 at 10:00 am, with a reception to follow in the Church Hall. He will be interred at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. REICHERT, Paul E., D.D.S, 94, died March 27, 2018. He was born August 9, 1923. Preceded in death by his wife Margaret his wife of 69 years on April 30, 2017., his parents W.J. and Cora Ranly Reichert and six brothers and sisters. He is survived by four sons David, Daniel (Suzanne), Kenneth (Jamie) and Kevin. A proud grandparent of Jake (Kelly) and Ashley Blackwell-Guerra; Sarah, Kate (Dave) Easwaran, Paul (Jen) and Emma; Lawrence and John; Rebecca and Hannah; great grandchildren Kayla and J.D. Reichert; Charlie and Alex Easwaran. Dr. Paul graduated from Coldwater High School in 1941. From 1941-1943, he attended St. Joseph's College before being inducted into the US Navy. From June 1943 to December 1945 he proudly served in the Submarine Service both in the North Atlantic and the South Pacific. He qualified in submarines in USS S-20 (SS-125) in 1944 and was QM2(SS) when released by the Navy, He continued his education at the University of Dayton graduating in December 1947. While attending U.D., he spent the autumn playing football and his summers playing baseball in the Brooklyn Dodgers Organization. On December 27, 1947 he married Margaret August and the two began a long life together. In 1948 Dr. Paul continued his education at The Ohio State University School of Dentistry graduating in 1952. He practiced General Dentistry in Dayton for 30 years. He served as President of the St. Albert's Parish Council and initial Treasurer of the Alter High School Boosters Association. He loved coaching baseball, an afternoon on the golf course, working in the garden and especially his family. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He will be buried along with his partner in life, Margaret. Funeral services will be held at St. Albert the Great Parish on Friday, April 6, 2018. The family will receive guests and friends at 10:30am prior to the funeral mass at 12:00noon. Paul and Margaret will be buried together at Calvary Cemetery immediately following the mass.
