At random: USS SKATE and USS SEADRAGON, after affecting a historic rendezvous under the ice, surfaced together at the North Pole through an opening in the ice on August 1962. What really happened: We didn't surface together, Skate surfaced first. Then we (Seadragon) fired yellow flares forward and aft so Skate could tell us how we were lined up. Remember, under-ice was primitive in these days. Skate called back down rapidly that one flare surfaced on her starboard side and the other to port. She requested we reposition before vertical surfacing. We did. - Coyote (Owen Carlson)

I flew cross country many times to attend the Most Coast Bashes in Fort Pierce. Joe and Jan welcomed me into their home like a brother. There is a special place in my heart for both of them. I will miss them.

Served with Joe and his brother Ken in Grampus (SS523) in the mid 50's.
Rest easy Joe. We have the watch.

PaulR - 2018-04-12 2:48 PMJOE MOST, Jr. OBIT

One of the OG BBS crew.

I signed up for his 1st BASH, had my tickets in hand and time off from work.

Our youngest daughter was on the kidney/pancreas transplant list at that time and THE CALL came in from Albany Medical Center that she was needed there STAT for a donor match.  Organs were successfully transplanted that night and my daughter was upset that I had to miss the BASH.

Needless to say I had to call Joe and cancel my travel plans.

I still have two of those hats he commissioned with his Army & Navy Store buddy and were one most days.

Thanks JOE for being a SHIPMATE...Sailor, rest your oar.

RIP Joe.  The Most Coast will not be the same.

A BASH on the Most Coast was a thing of beauty -- if you like to eat and drink.  It was a traveling circus:  VFW, Legion, Elks, and Little John and Patches Pub (the only backyard bar I've seen with 2 or 3 draft beers and no liquor bottles smaller than 1.75)!

Joe and I had mutual acquaintances in the little upstate NY town of Liberty  - but we never knew each other up there.
