OAKES, William F., of Wadsworth, passed away on April 22, 2018 after a short illness. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio on July 10, 1943. He attended St Peter's High School. He joined the Navy and was an electrician and battery man on the submarines U.S.S. Sirago and Argonaut. He had a strong work ethic and worked at Garner Bros. drive-in, Firestone and Rubber Co. and eventually retired from Chrysler.Bill will be remembered as being the quiet guy that didn't say too much. He was the type of guy that would go for an afternoon drive to Mansfield and Lucas, Ohio to get a root beer float at the local Wendy's or just to buy a bag of Jones's potato chips. Bill enjoyed being near the water and playing horse shoes on the beach for hours. He could not pass up a good auction just by looking at the inventory in his garage. He collected die-cast antique toy tractors and was a fan of Amish furniture. In the last few years of his life he kept in contact with many lifelong friends and strengthened his relationship with the newer ones. His heart was always in Mansfield. He was predeceased by father, Paul; and mother, Annie Lou; his big brother, Paul Jr. and sister, Annie Lou. He is survived by his brothers, James (Linda) and Tom (Donna); former spouse and long-time friend, Sheila (Semonin); son, Shawn; daughters, Elizabeth (Ryan) Guise and Shannon (Al) Greene; his grandchildren, Quinton and Amari Greene, Riley and Royce Oakes and Emmet and Amelia Guise.
