FARRIS, Jack Gale, was born on February 24, 1940 and passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Jack was a resident of North Carolina at the time of passing. After graduating from high school and attending college for a short time, Jack enlisted in the US Navy where he served on several submarines including the USS Catfish and the USS Puffer. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 11 at 7:00 PM at Trinity Community Church (1650 Old Apex Rd. Cary, NC 27513). A Memorial Service Friday May 11, 2018, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Trinity Community Church. MERCY, Richard, LT, USN, Ret.,, was born on May 20, 1940 and passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Richard was a resident of Vermont at the time of passing. Richard was raised in Richford and graduated from Richford High School Class of 1958. He was a 20-year Veteran of the United States Navy as a submariner on the USS Ethan Allen. Following a long and distinguished career he received his honorable discharge as a Lieutenant. A memorial service with military honors will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 3:00PM at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickenson Ave. Enosburg Falls, VT. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00PM until the hour of the service. For those who wish, contributions in Richard's memory may be made to the Richford American Legion Scholarship Fund, 35 River Street, Richford, VT 05476.


RIGHINO, Frank Decoster, 94, of Greensburg, PA passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, due to complications of a brief illness. He was born April 12, 1924, in Turtle Creek, a son of the late Frank and Yvonne (DeCoster) Righino. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by Alcoa for 34 years. He was a Navy veteran, serving on submarines during World War II. He qualified in submarines in USS Gabilan (SS-252) in 1945 and was EM2(SS) when released by the Navy. Frank was a graduate of Turtle Creek High School and a member of Bucktail Rod and Gun Club, Emporium. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had many lifelong friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Estella A. (Verner) Righino on December 31, 2004; his daughter, Faye Augustine; two infant sons, Chris and Mark Righino; his granddaughter, Amy; and three sisters, Delores Brown, Eleanor Ward and Yvonne O'Lear. He is survived by six children, Yvonne (Ronald) Mulhorn, David (Marlene) Righino, Lorraine (Dave) Elder, Gary (Caroline) Righino, Rachelle (Mark) Repine and Brian (Colleen) Righino; his son-in-law, Dick Augustine; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, June 9, 2018, in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park Chapel, Greensburg. Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home Inc., 516 Stanton St., Greensburg, is in charge of arrangements. RUST, Eugene Joseph, 69, passed away at home on Monday, April 30, 2018, after a brief illness with his beloved wife at his side. Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on April 14, 1949, he was the son of the late Herman and Elizabeth ((Zweibohmer) Rust. He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1967 and served in the US Navy as Engine Room Supervisor aboard the nuclear submarine USS Sam Houston. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Western Wisconsin Technical Institute in La Crosse before returning to East coast to work as a professional troubleshooter for the former OES Systems in White Plains, New York and as a technical writer for Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut. In later years, he returned to his power engineering roots and worked at several power plants in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Eugene enjoyed his friends and family and had many and varied interests. His first concern was helping others. His kindness and generosity to others knew were well- known and appreciated by all he helped. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor and had a positive and upbeat outlook on life. He loved good conversation, great books, history, freshwater fishing and his ability to troubleshoot and fix almost anything. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife and the love of his life, Joan (DiSanti) Rust, his sisters Marilyn Jelinek and her husband Victor of Webster City, Iowa, Marie Rust and her husband Stephen Kautz of Portland, Oregon and Jolene Rust of La Crosse, Wisconsin. He also leaves his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Debra (DiSanti) Chiacchieri and her husband Frank of Wrentham, Massachusetts, as well as several special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence Rust. At his request, memorial services were held privately. For those who wish to remember Eugene, donations may be made in his name to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or by contacting the development office at 413-735-1368. I met Jack Farris when I reported aboard Puffer in '71. We went to the yard in '73 and in '74 he became a detailer. Then he detailed himself back to the Puffer in '78, it was back in the yard. He later became Puffer's COB.
