GALLOWAY, Major L., 66, of East Huntingdon Township, passed away at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at home, surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Galloway was born Oct. 21, 1952, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Andrew and Sarah (Mulroy) Galloway. He married Loretta (Parker) Galloway June 23, 2001. Major was a graduate of Southmoreland High School, class of 1970, and served in the Navy from 1970-1976 aboard the nuclear submarine USS Archerfish (SSN-678). One of the things he was most proud of was his achievement as "qualified on submarines" by earning his dolphins on May 9, 1973. He was an active member of the SubVets of the U.S.S. Requin Base in Pittsburgh. He was also a lifetime member and past senior vice commander of the Everson VFW Hamilton-Maloy Post No. 595. He was employed by Volkswagen from 1977-1989 as a senior manager of quality assurance systems. He also worked at GlaxoSmith Kline from 1992 until his retirement as manager of systems and logistics supporting their Walmart business. Major's hobbies included metal detecting and fishing. He particularly loved going to camp in Renovo, Pa. and enjoyed metal detecting the woods of New Hampshire and Connecticut, as well as his hometown of Scottdale, unearthing historic relics. His greatest legacy, though, was his faith in our Lord Jesus. He was a faithful disciple, spreading the Good News of the Gospel and leading others to know our Savior. He attended the Word of Life Church in Hempfield Township. Major is survived by his wife, Loretta (Parker) Galloway; his son, Christopher Galloway and his wife, Jamie, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; his stepdaughters, Angela Kennedy and husband, Gregory, of Greensburg, and Debra Hernley and husband, Justin, of Ohio; his grandchildren, Aurelia Galloway, Lucie, Liberty, Lyla and Lena Hernley and Elliot and Everett Kennedy; his brothers, James Galloway and wife, Linda, Drew Galloway and wife, DeeDee and Jeff Galloway and wife, Bernadette; his mother-in-law, Lucia Parker; his sister-in-law, Karen Parker; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the Robert B. Ferguson Funeral Home, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com / GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278). Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel, where a parting prayer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Scottdale, with Pastor Larry Bettencourt officiating. GRaveside committal services and interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery, with full military honors bestowed by the U.S.S. Requin and Scottdale-Everson Honor Guards. Memorials may be made to Samaritan Fellowship Church, 1211 W. Hudson Road, Rogers, AR 72756, or by calling 479-986-8378. "The ties of Love not even death can sever. Sorrow will pass, but Love abides Forever!" Published in Greensburg Tribune Review Nov. 1, 2018.
