BLODGETT, Thomas, 83, of Bethlehem and formerly of Chalfont and Perkasie, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 24, 2007 in the Hospice of the VNA of St. Lukes, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Marie (Welte) Blodgett, who died November 21, 1980. Born on January 14, 1924 in Ardmore, Pa., he was a son of the late Harold G. and Elizabeth (Moore) Blodgett. He graduated from North Penn High School, Lansdale, in 1942. He was a member of North Penns championship track team. He set a high school record for the javelin, which stood for more than 20 years. Mr. Blodgett owned and operated a landscape and nursery business, Blodgett Nurseries, first in Chalfont for 10 years and then in Perkasie for 30 years until retiring in 1986. He held leadership positions in the Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association. He served in the Navy submarine service aboard the USS Sea Owl, (SS-405) during World War II and was awarded the submarine combat insignia three times for serving under extended periods of combat in the Pacific theater. He was a member of Subvets of World War II, Lehigh Valley Chapter, for 47 years. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 60 years, he was a charter and former member of the Chalfont V.F.W. and a current member of the V.F.W. Forrest Lodge, Sellersville. Survivors: He is survived by a son, Jack Blodgett and his wife, Lois, of Central, S.C.; two daughters, Eileen Blodgett and her husband, Thomas Anderson, of Nevada City, Calif., Greta Snyder and her husband, Jack, of Albrightsville; stepdaughter, Virginia Winn of Chappaque, N.Y.; six grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nine stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Della Jones. Services: will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, where family and friends may call from 19 a.m. until service time. Entombment will follow in Perkasie Mausoleum. Contributions: May be made to Hospice of the VNA of St. Lukes, 2455 Black River Road, Bethlehem, PA 18015.


JONES, James D. "Jimmy", 84, beloved husband and father, retired Boeing Electrical Engineer, died Monday, September 24, 2007. Jimmy was a WWII Submarine Veteran. He was an avid outdoor sportsman and former board member of the Kansas Trapshooters Association. Jimmy instilled his love of the outdoors in all of his children and their families. Preceded in death by his son, Richard A. Jones. Survivors: wife, Betty Jean (Nelson) Jones; son, Dave and wife, Winifred Jones of Valley Center, KS; daughters, Cathy Morgan of Ft. Collins, CO and Jeanne and husband, Mark Finkbeiner of Warrenton, OR; grandchildren, Andrew and wife, Shanna Finkbeiner and Beth and husband, Scott Hall; great-grandchild, Lily Finkbeiner. Memorial service 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 27, Downing & Lahey Mortuary East. A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS, 67202. MORTON, Donald Everette, 74, of Matthews, N.C., died Saturday, September 22, 2007, at his residence. A native of Portland, Mr. Morton was born October 27, 1932, to the late Francis and Doris Hammond Morton. He was a Navy Veteran and served as a submariner. He continued his love of the sea as a career as a Ship Chandler for most of his life. He married Janet Pauline Cavanaugh, a marriage of 37 years. A service to celebrate the life of Donald Morton will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at Joy Fellowship Christian Church where he was a member. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Morton is survived by his children David Morton, Deborah Eicher, Dawn Morton, Kimberly Brown, Mark Jordan, and Kathleen Wright (My Kataleen). Other survivors include 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. NICHOLES, Thomas Melvin, 76, died on September 22, 2007, after a courageous battle of cancer for over 7 years with his family at his bedside. He was born July 28, 1931. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Sills in 1950 and they had a loving marriage that lasted 57 years and had a beautiful family of 8 children whom they loved very much and were proud of. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the Submarine U.S.S. Entemedor from 1952 until 1954. He retired after 35 years of service with ATT. He became the Worshipful Master of the Aldine Masonic Lodge #1412 in the year 2006 to 2007. Being a Mason was always his desire and was also a cherished desire which he accomplished and made him very happy. Preceded in death by daughter, Shelley and parents and siblings. Survived by his wife Barbara; 4 sons, Thomas and wife Peggy, Tim and wife Kim, Tracy and wife Janie, Christopher and wife Lori,; also 3 daughters, Joan, Melanie and husband Michael Potter, Nicole and husband Donnie Norton. Blessed with 11 grandchildren, Christy, Jeffery, Michelle, Brittany, Kathryne, Laci, Alyssa, Remington Nicholes, Jacob and Caleb Potter; great-grandson, Brandon Clayton; 2 step-grandchildren, Nikki and James George, and many other loving family members and friends. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at Rosewood Funeral Home, with a funeral service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2007, in the chapel. A masonic rite graveside service will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
