COOK, Harold William, 81, died Saturday, September 29, 2007, at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice Citrus Care Center in Inverness, FL. Mr. Cook was born February 8, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo. He resided in St. Petersburg from 1951 to 1962 before moving to Pinellas Park, where he resided for 26 years. He and his wife Betty were weekend residents of this area since 1979, coming from Pinellas Park, and they moved here permanently in 1988. Mr. Cook retired from Florida Power in St. Petersburg as a switchboard operator with 37 years of service. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1943-45 and in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945-49, serving in the Atlantic and Pacific war zones on the USS Sea Poacher (SS-406) and Torsk (SS-423). He was honorably discharged with the rank of Torpedoman Third Class. He was a member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans Nautilus Base in Ocala, where he served as chaplain from 2000-01. He enjoyed volunteer work, especially with the Family Resource Center of Citrus County, Hospice of Citrus County, RSVP, The Housing Foundation for the Elderly, Windermere Social Club and the Salvation Army band. Other enjoyments in his life were fishing, cooking, reading, woodworking and traveling. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Inverness, where he served in many capacities such as trustee, on the finance committee, lawn maintenance crew, men's prayer breakfast, usher, soup & sacrifice, video ministry, visitation ministry and other areas. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Cook; two daughters, Kristy Cook of Spring Hill and Sandi Bossard of Inverness; three sisters, Bonnie Mayfield and husband Monroe of St. Louis, Mo., Eleanor Polizzi of Troy, Ill., and Marie Perry of Union, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Smith and husband David of Temple Terrace and Melissa Bossard of Tampa; and one great-grandson, Josiah Smith of Temple Terrace. CRIDDLE, II, E. T., 80, of Caldwell, formerly of Houston, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Burleson St. Joseph Health Center. A memorial Mass was at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell with Father Dimitrij Colankin officiating. E. T. was born May 15, 1927, in Hayti, Mo. He was a University of Missouri alumni and was a rancher in Caldwell for the last 32 years. Prior to that, he worked in the insurance business for 29 years. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy on submarine duty in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post No. 4458 and American Legion Post No. 455. He was also a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell. E. T. was preceded in death by his son, E. T. “Tommy” Criddle III. Survivors include his wife, Julia Anne Criddle; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Hazel Criddle of Austin, Toni Angela and Lou Jacques and Denise Anne and David Pineda, all of Caldwell; granddaughters, Heather Hudkins and husband, Jim, Lisa Dufrene and husband, Pete, Michelle Strickland of College Station, Monica Cortez and husband, Oscar, of Caldwell, Tina Cornelius and husband, Dave, of Bryan, Jennifer Pineda of Denver, Colo., and Julie Pineda of Caldwell; grandsons, Brad Britt of Houston and Evan Jacques of Bryan; and great-grandchildren, Cameron and Mia Hudkins, Nicole and Brooke Strickland, Kelsey Gilley, Andreas and Gabriella Cortez, Joshawa Jacques, Xavier Robinson, Corey Pineda, Jordan Cornelius, Veronica Martinez and Solana Ramirez. DiSABATINO, Francis J. “Frank”, 82, died Sunday, September 30, 2007 in the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after being stricken ill at home. The son of the late Liberato and Rose (Tricca) DiSabatino, he ws born in Everett on July 1, 1925. A decorated navel veteran, Frank served in the US Navy on a submarine during WWII. A resident of Hanover for 51 years, Frank served as Chairman of the Communications Center and as Clerk of the Works in the construction of the new Police Station. Frank provided guidance to the Hanover Fire and Police Departments on improving communications including the establishment of the 911 service for Hanover. Frank became a familiar face to many homeowners in Hanover while serving as the Assistant to the Town Assessor. A graduate of Tufts University, Frank was a teacher at Norwell and Quincy High School, and tought part-time at Northeastern University and Quincy Junior College, as well as the Massachusetts Hospital for Crippled Children in Canton during a career that spanned 50 years. Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia (Shea) DeSabatino, 4 daughters, Marie DiSabatino of Olney, MD, Cheryl Moore of Hanover, Dianne Carter of Los Alto, CA and Gina O'Donoghue of Wrentham, 1 brother Charles DiSabatino of everett, 1 sister Mary McInnis of Saugus and 7 grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Albert DiSabatino. Funeral Service in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte. 53 in HANOVER, on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment in Hanover Center Cemetery. GRUBB, Norval Townley, 85, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 28, 2007. Born in Bend, OR on March 22, 1922, to Ole and Agnes Grubb, Norv grew up in the Bend area, attended Tumalo Grade School and graduated from Redmond High School where he played football, acted in school plays and was president of the Future Farmers of America chapter. He attended Oregon State and was president of Theta Xi fraternity. During his junior year he joined the Navy and was transferred to the University of Colorado where, in 1944, he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering with special honors. During his college years, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Central Oregon on projects near Black Butte Ranch, where he would later build a vacation home. Norv went on to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating as an ensign in August 1944, and later graduated from submarine school at New London, Conn. He was commissioned to serve on submarines in the South Pacific and concluded his active service as part of the occupying force in Japan. He was honorably discharged from the Navy Reserve in 1954 as a lieutenant. Norv started his work career at ESCO in 1946. He married Virginia Thomas in Vale, Ore., on Oct. 5, 1947. They lived in Portland for all of their married lives except for a brief time in Danville, Ill., and three years near Brussels, Belgium when Norv was vice president for ESCO Europe in the early 1980s. Early in his ESCO career, he designed parts for earth moving equipment and took great pride in the U.S. patents he received for his designs. Norv held numerous positions including vice president for the products division, manufacturing, and European operations. He retired from ESCO in 1983. He then served at Valley Community Presbyterian Church for 10 years as the church administrator, where he was previously a church elder. Norv served on the board of directors for ESCO Europe, ESCO Canada, and Investors Insurance. He was an active member of the Multnomah Athletic Club where he was secretary of the board in 1967 and worked out several mornings a week for over 50 years as part of the Polar Bear and Early Bird groups. Norv served on the local school committee for Raleigh Park, was president of the Adtex scholarship program, and was active in the Arranmore Homeowners' Association. Norv is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia; sons, Jeff and Neil; daughter, Janice; and nine grandchildren, who will miss his very active participation in their lives. His family, business associates, and countless friends will miss his advice, friendship, love, and the pure joy of spending time with him. He was a truly authentic role model representing the Greatest Generation that built our country. A memorial service will be held at Valley Community Presbyterian Church at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, with a reception immediately following at Portland Golf Club. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Valley Foundation, 8060 SW Brentwood, Portland, OR 97225.
