At random: USS R-6 was fitted the first prototype US submarine snorkel at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the closing months of the European part of WW II in April / May 1945 and successfully tested it off Fort Lauderdale, Fl. as the war against Japan ended in August 1945. The snorkel was removed from the USS R-6 and she was decommissioned and scrapped in September 1945.

It is with sadness that I report that Captain George Scott died suddenly at his home in Roswell,
New Mexico on August 2, 2007. He is survided by his wife Linda Kane whom he married on
Dec. 9, 1976, and his sons James, Christian, Dana, Gordon and daughter Natalie, to them
and their families go our prayers and sympathy in this time of their sudden loss.
Capt Scott served on the Sterlet(SS392) from 1959-61, also as Executive Officer of the
Sennet (408) 62-63, Robert E Lee (601) recently honored there during their reunion in Sept,
Threadfin (410), Toro (422), and Pompon (267). May the Comfort and Strength of his Friends
and Shipmates help his family during these long dark days as they mourn his loss.
We are "A Last Man Standing Organization" and they will not be forgotten. Captain Scott
will be honored during our "Tolling of the Bells" in San Diego Harbor on October 13, 2007
during our reunion. (220 other Sterlet crew members will be hnored at that time), and
the Southwest Navy Band Bugler will pay taps prior to the laying of flowers in the water.)
