Subject: Obit Messenger results for 10/05/07

STANO, Joseph M., 83, of South Yarmouth, died Saturday, September 29, 2007, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. Born, raised and educated in Worcester, Mr. Stano was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester. He served in the Navy during World War II as a submariner. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory medal, the American Theater Medal, the Submarine Combat Insignia, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of seaman, first class in 1946. Mr. Stano worked for many years as a chef for several country clubs throughout Massachusetts and also worked at Piccadilly Deli in South Yarmouth. He was a communicant at St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth. He is survived by his longtime companion, Frances R. Mason of South Yarmouth; two daughters, Maryann Fells and her husband Butch, and Janice O'Brien and her husband Kevin, all of South Yarmouth; a son, Joseph E. Stano of Springfield; a sister, Edith Icarrina of Worcester; his beloved goddaughter, Nicole Fells of South Yarmouth; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Leonardo Stano. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Regional School, 245 Main St., West Harwich, MA 02671.
