TERBUSH, Thomas William, 69, left this world on October 14, 2007 with his son by his side. He was born in a farmhouse outside of Tonkawa, Okla., on October 7, 1938. After several years of carousing and mischief, he took his younger brother on a trip around the Midwest. During that summer, they lived partially off silver dollars kept in a cowboy boot. During that time, he imparted his vast wisdom upon the younger Terbush. Afterwards, he enlisted in the Navy where he served from 1959 to 1965, on the nuclear submarine USS Halibut as a MM2 (SS), Machinist Mate. While in the Navy, he searched every port for a wife, and in Hawaii, he found his true love, Judith Ann Parker, originally from Canada. They were married in Brussels Ontario, Canada, and then settled in Norman, Okla. At the University of Oklahoma, Tom pursued his PhD. in Geography. The family quickly grew to include two daughters, Kristin and Kim, and one son, Scott. After graduation, the family moved to Virginia and Tom pursued a new career. Tom coached numerous soccer and softball teams, was a short order cook for his family and friends, and started a software company. As a member of the Bon Air United Methodist Church, he enjoyed cooking breakfast on Easter and Thanksgiving holidays and for CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter). Tom was a constant presence in the lives of his children, and continued to play a supporting role as they grew up, married, and started their own families. If there was a bike race, play, musical, or museum tour, he was there. His greatest delight were visits with his children and grandchildren. In his later years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling the continental United States to visit with extended family, and they always stopped to smell the roses. He loved genealogy, and was able to research his American roots to the 16th century. He was a voracious reader and was known to read a complete book in one sitting. Most of all, he loved spending time with family. He talked to his mother and siblings on the phone frequently. He was a son, husband, brother, uncle, father, grandfather and friend to many, and he will be missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Victor Terbush. He is survived by his wife, Judith Parker Terbush; mother, Opal Terbush; two brothers, Jim Terbush and Larry Terbush; two sisters, Carol Terbush Cronk and Jeanetta Terbush Clark; three children, Kristin Terbush Thrower and her husband, Pete Thrower, Kimberly Terbush Watson and her husband, Richard Watson, Thomas Scott Terbush and his wife, Carrie Capestro Terbush; and three grandchildren, Megan Thrower, Michael Thrower and Carter Watson. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Bon Air United Methodist Church (BAUMC) Memorial Garden in the name of Thomas Terbush, 1645 Buford Rd., Richmond, Va., 23235. A memorial service will be held in his honor 11 a.m., Friday, October 19 at Bon Air United Methodist Church, 1645 Buford Rd. Richmond, Va. 23235, with a fellowship to follow immediately after.
