PRUETT, Ronald L., CDR, USN, Ret., 74, Passed away October 15, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born June 19, 1933 and raised in Seattle, Ron graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1957. After a 26 year distinguished Naval career that included duty in submarines and surface ships, he retired to the Seattle area having earned his MBA and CFP and had a second career as certified financial planner with USAA. Never one to be still; Ron always had a project and left his imprint on every home he and his family owned. He loved working with his hands, making furniture and remodeling homes. Ron had a great sense of adventure and was never afraid to try something new. Introducing his family to many new experiences, he loved to travel off the beaten path which took him to over 34 countries. Ron loved to cook, making wine, biscotti, submarine refrigerator cookies and fresh apple cider from his apple orchard on Whidbey Island were some of his favorites. Ron's passion for life included golfing, boating, wood working, and as mentioned, cooking and travel. Ron leaves behind his loving family; wife of 48 years, Lynn, daughter, Cynthia Vigdor (husband, Reid and daughters, Lea and Lauren) and son, Stephen (wife, Diane) Pruett. He is survived by his brother, Jeff Pruett and sister, Paula Moran and is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. E.W. Pruett and Maude Jeffrey-Pruett. Ron's Celebration of Life will be held October, 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Acacia Memorial Park, 14951 Bothell Way N.E., Seattle, WA 98155. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland.


ZEITLIN, Sigmund Perry, 85, of Palm Springs, CA passed away Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 2:25 a.m. He was born on April 9, 1922 to William Dudley Watson and Sarah Irene Rosen in Philadelphia, PA. He married Betty Marcus on July 11, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA. Sig joined the Navy in 1939 and spent December 7, 1941 in a submarine outside Pearl Harbor. He resigned from the Navy in 1946 as a YN1(SS), having served aboard the submarines R-18 (SS-95), BARB (SS-220), S-17 (SS-122), and PINTADO (SS-387). He next enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1948 and served under General Curtis LeMay in the Strategic Air Command. When the Army and Air Force separated, he remained in the Air Force for an additional fifteen years as a Special Agent for OSI, retiring at the rank of Major. In 1964 he became a Special Agent with the Office of the Inspector General, US Department of Agriculture. After he retired from the Department of Agriculture, he and Betty settled in Palm Springs in 1984. Sig Zeitlin was a life member of the US Submarine Veterans, Life Member AFOSISA and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) serving in several officer capacities, including President of the California Chapter. His other affiliations included: B'nai B'rith, serving a term as President, The Jewish War Veterans, serving a term as President, The American Legion, and was a charter member of the Military Officers Association of America. Sig was also very active in Palm Springs civic affairs. He is survived by daughters, Diane Dinkmeyer of Denver, CO, Iris Graham of Torro de Don Miguel, Spain; son Mark Zeitlin of Mesa, AZ; and by his brother, Leonard Zeitlin of Edgewater, NJ. Sig "Tiger" Zeitlin is also survived by four grandchildren, Deborah, Henry, Stefan and Jennifer; and by five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Joseph, Sarah, Tatiana and Rafael. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Zeitlin. A pre-service reception with light lunch and viewing is scheduled for Sunday, October 21, 2007 from noon to 12:45 p.m. at Forest Lawn Mortuary, 69855 E. Ramon Rd., Cathedral City, CA. Service will be in the Ramon Chapel at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Military Honor Guard interment also at Forest Lawn. Sig requested that in lieu of flowers, for those so inclined, donations be made to the charity of individual choice or to www.BrainCandyProject.org Forest Lawn Cathedral City is in charge of arrangements.

USNA Class '57 having 50th reunion this weekend in Annapolis.

The two obits show -- no matter the amount of formal education -- submariners are as one.
