MELHER, Paul John, 75, Oakdale, CA, passed away on Jan. 19, 2019. "PJ" was born on Feb. 10, 1943 and lived a vivacious and memorable life. P.J. graduated from Norwalk High School in 1961 and enlisted in the Navy the same year. He retired after 26 years of active duty service with the United States Navy serving on six submarines. He was inducted into the prestigious Holland Club in 2014. He went on to work at both Electric Boat and EG&G where he continued to ride the submarines he loved so much. He loved riding his Harley Davidson with his friends and traveling the world including trips to see his favorite band Government Mule. "PJ" loved NASCAR and was passionate about the Daytona 500. On top of the hobbies, "PJ" was also a Cowboy's fan and a member of the Polish Club, the Submarines Veterans, and much more. Paul is going to be sorely missed by his family and friends, including his children; Tammy and Lindsay, his step-children; Rhonda, and Chris, as well as his grandchildren; Haley, Aidan, Hayden, and Richie. Paul was predeceased by his beloved late wife, Ann Marie, his sister, Carleen, and his mother, Jean Melher. "PJ" will also be missed by his pet snake "Squeeze". A visitation will be held at the Montville Funeral Home, located at, 53 CT-Rte. 32, in Uncasville, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. VAUGHAN, Edward B. Jr., a native of Mobile, AL, Ted passed away in his hometown of Champaign, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward B. Vaughan and Lilian Leigh Vaughan and is survived by his wife of 29 years Beth Stafford Vaughan, daughter Helen Vaughan Mardis, son Edward B. Vaughan III, brother N. Leigh Vaughan, grandson J. Andrew Mardis, granddaughter Anna Leigh Vaughan, and two great grandchildren. At nine years old he moved with his family to Larchmont, NY. He graduated from Marion Military Institute; the U.S. Naval Academy; the U.S. Naval Post Graduate school in Monterey, CA, with a Master's in electrical engineering; and Tulane University with an MBA. Following graduation from the USNA, Ted was assigned to and qualified on destroyers and then to submarines after completion of sub school in New London, CT. Subsequent to post graduate school, he spent most of the next 14 years building, repairing, and designing submarines. He spent the final years of his naval career in the overhaul of nuclear submarines, new construction of Spruance class destroyers, helicopter assault ships, and the first Aegis Guided Missile Cruiser in Pascagoula, MS. Following his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1979, Ted worked in marine construction in Houston, TX, and New Orleans, LA. He then moved to Champaign, IL, to spend 15 years assisting in the construction and management of Illinois Power Company's Clinton Nuclear Power Station. The years after retirement from Illinois Power were spent traveling with Beth, as a board member of the Champaign Southwest Mass Transit District, and as an active member of the USNA Alumni Assn, Military Officers Assn, the Porshe Club of America, the Naval Submarine League, and the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. Services for Ted will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, Champaign, IL, with visitation at 1:30pm and services at 2:00pm. There will be a columbarium memorial service at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Ted's family request your charitable donation to the USNA Alumni Assn, 247 King George St, Annapolis, MD-21401; the Naval Submarine League, PO Box 3870, Silverdale, WA-98383; or a charity of your choice. BRAY, Aaron Leon, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Aaron was a resident of Burgaw, North Carolina at the time of passing. Born October 26, 1942 in Central Texas, Aaron joined the US Navy right out of high school and served our country as Machinist Mate on the submarine, USS Spinax, during the early years of the Vietnam War.

MORRELL (DODD), Philip Brian, 71, passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2019, dearly loved husband of Shirley, much loved father of Mark, a loving father-in-law of Anneka, and proud grandpa of River, Ziony, and Thea; Loved brother to Denise and brother-in-law to David, Anne and Nelson (UK), loved uncle to Stephen, and Christopher, and Steven, and friend to many. Grateful thanks to the Nurse Maude carers and nurses and our lovely friends for their loving care and support during Phil's illness. Phil served in the British Royal Navy for 23 years with the HMS Polaris Submarine Fleet. Phil and family came to NZ from the UK in 2008, he taught at various High Schools in Canterbury before his retirement. Messages may be addressed to The Family of the late Phil Morrell, c/- PO Box 39001, Christchurch 8545. In lieu of flowers donations to Nurse Maude Hospice would be appreciated and may be made at the service. A Service to celebrate Phil's life will be held in our Rangiora Chapel, Wai-mana, 92 Kippenberger Avenue, Rangiora on Friday, January 25, at 10.30am, thereafter private cremation.
