CRAIG, Augustus Frederick, 79, of Stonington, CT died peacefully on October 18, 2007, while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Mystic, CT on August 26, 1928, he was the son of the late William Payne Craig and Ida Belle Holly. After serving in the U.S. Navy as a submariner, he went to work for Davis Standard from October of 1955 until his retirement in April of 1992. Gus put his gifted hands to work in the extruder assembly department for 37 years in order to provide for his family. In addition to Davis Standard, he spent 11 wonderful summers with his family, hosting campers and beachgoers on Ram Island (Mystic Island). He was often seen driving as many as a dozen children along the beach on the old Jeep while singing "Henry The 8th, I am." In addition to his wife of 51 years, Virginia (Twiggy) Craig, Gus is survived by his four children, Gus Craig of Stonington, Laura Zeppieri of Ledyard, Diane Kodama of North Stonington, and Bill Craig of Phoenix, Ariz., and his 12 grandchildren. Gus is also survived by a sister, Anne Warren, of Mystic. Gus is predeceased by his siblings, William Craig, Jean Killen, and Barbara Ferguson. His family will greet relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., historic downtown Mystic. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary's Church, Stonington Borough. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of CT, 2139 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 208, Rocky Hill CT 06067-2339. For obituary information, directions, or to send his family a note of remembrance or condolence, please visit www.dinotofuneral.com.

Born in Mystic, was destined to be a submariner. Resting under the sunny yardarm of God's boat.
