At random: Traditionally, United States submarines have been named after fish and other marine creatures. One exception was the Navy's first submarine HOLLAND which was named after its inventor, John Philip Holland. Today, ballistic missile submarines are named for famous American patriots, with the newest class, the OHIO class, named after states. The LOS ANGELES class of attack submarines are named for United States cities. The nations news class of submarine, the Virginia class, is also named for US States, making them the capital ships of the navy.

Gary, Not sure I understood your message. Not the sharpest crayon in the box, that's for sure but I failed to figure out if (A) I was doing something that appeared to have some kind of commercial message (B) some kind of commercial advocacy or (C) appeared to promote some commercial position, product or service. If so, it was not intended and to be honest, it was something done that I wasn't even aware of. Over lunch a good friend of mine and I had a discussion about these giant flags showing up at auto dealerships. He showed me an artical taken from some kind of auto dealers journal, telling about how it was a very inexpensive way to attract customers and how dealers could get around local zoning laws that restrict the height of advertising signs, symbols and lighted logos, by simply erecting a giant pole and placing a U.S. flag on it...a giant flag that can be seen at great distance. One line read,"Who can say anything negative about the display of Old Glory? You get the publicity and veterans protection and patronage." Now there's commercialism for you. Oh yes, the piece says that there is nothing that attracts public attention like the moving folds of the American flag. The rascal sure got that right. But, Gary since that conversation took place only four hours ago, it can't be what you are referring to. I've never seen your EASY button, so it can't be that. Your friend and shipmate DEX

Using our National Flag for advertising is against the law or so I was led to believe in my younger days. I guess it's freedom of speech these days.

Looks like Cora has spun off another clue to a riddle.

In my area of America, Staples Inc. uses a television commercial to sell ink.
In this commercial, a firm with 8 partners decides to use an acronym of their names to save ink when printing.
I (incorrectly) thought using an acronym of our best and brightest forum posters names, would be FUNNY.
I will, in the future, only tell off color jokes and post pictures of scantily clad women.

Subject: Seriously....on obesity

We all poke fun at folks like her, but it is really a tragic situation.

Kinda morbid subject I guess, but that gal has been in a lot of internet pix exploiting her collosal size......wonder how old she is? Wonder how old she'll get before her massive weight kills her? Wonder why she doesn't appear to be motivated to help herself?
What am I missing? Dr. Stan? Do you have any insight into self-destructive behavior?

Sorry I still don't get it. For once I agree with Dex in not understanding the point other than a shot at humor at the expense of "Brothers of the Phin" (I have 16 years of education plus NAVY schools so I certainly, understand an anagram). Sorry I have a business and if I say things everyonce in awhile get over it if the Dingbat list is based on commercialism why did you figure out a way to add a C to it somehow for Crystal who hocks goods on here more than anyone else. If it is just a joke why use the word commercialism why not say goofyness. Final why the shot at Cora for standing up for me, it was not necessary because like her, I don't consider myself a dingbat. Would you all like it if the anagram had been had a..hoLe or pr..K.
I have had enough I am tired of the "gallow" sick humor and being associated with people who feel it is necessary, while I enjoy the "Sea Stories" and the submarine stuff. the rest of the stupidness is not necessary. Anyone who wants to have contact with me in the future email me or call me and it your not on MY LOOK/SOUND STUPID LIST I will reply. I am damn tired of being lumped into agruements, and think maybe I will just turn my back on this "Brotherhood of the Phin" since I obviously no longer qualify having no gallows humor and having never ridden the almighty world saving earth shattering Diesel Boats. (DBFOREVER attitude being the other reason I am feed up) and am going to take a different take on everyones advice and am not going to bother reading anyones post here, I am just going to leave. On the subject of commercialism Doc your stuff will be on the way in mail tomorrow. And the rest of you "Brothers" enjoy your Humor.

This is NOT directed at Bear. He won't see it, anyway, 'cause you have driven him away.
