At random: "The Turkish skipper of ex-USS Tang, when asked about the difference between the German designed and built replacement boats for their retiring ex-US boats, is reported to have said, "American submarines are built for war, German submarines are built for export."

I thought that all tactical nucs were banned by the SALT treaties years ago. Shows how current I am with military events. WTF are we doing running around the country with these things in bomb-bays anyhow?????

B-52s carry them on pylons under wings....too...these cruise missiles were actually being sent to boneyard......EXCEPT....the warheads were still on these.....OOOppss.
Do USAF guys go to Leavenworth?....Naval guys, usually Supply Officers and Comm officers who run afoul of regs go to Portsmouth. Only kidding for all the pork chops out there.

Ron, I'm not talking about strategic weopons, only the tactical weopons that are ment to take out a single ship, plane, or other target, or so-called "battlefield" nuc, vs the strategic weopon that is ment to take out a city, missle site, or other large straatigic target.
Are the "battlefield" nucs still in use?

Steamboat........YEP!!!!! Lots of countries have them.....IRBM or cruise missile would be typical method of delivery.
21st century cruise (non nuke) missiles pack more than enough bang to take out single targets like warships etc....
But not a CVN..........unless she's successfully attacked by a stream of these missiles.....Old Russian SS-22-N, Moskit
missile, NATO calls it the "Sunburn," is a very high speed cruise missile. It was already delivered to China, she has them mounted on the Russian Sovremmeny DDG's she bot from Russia.
Countries like China, Russia, Israel, the US and I'd venture to say Brits, French and NATO folks have "some"
tactical nuke capability in addition to the BIG nukes.......
India is rapidly building her long range Bramos cruise missile capablility, she already has a nuclear capability.....India
supposedly is "renting several Russian Akula nuke subs."
The danger to US Navy CSGs and ESGs would come from a quiet DE or AIP equipped boat using a nuke tipped cruise missile.
The world ain't a very nice place right now.....

That ain't the scary part - ours are in good hands. It's the quality of the FOREIGN governments that have them that scares me. More so than when I was chauferring ours around back in the '70s and '80s.

And that the Ruskies and the Frogs are not as strongly opposed to Iran having Nukes as we are - makes you wonder if that's where Iran is getting its technology.

I venture to guess that North Korea and Pakistan have helped and NK is still actively aiding Iran with
development of nuclear devices......NK sold Iran Scuds and newer versions of old Russian missiles.
The recent Israeli attack in Syria was on a nuclear facility being jointly developed by NK and Syria.
While Vladmir Putin is stirring up the pot anywhere he can, nuclear weps is another question.....Russia is a lot closer to Iran than the US geographically speaking.......for all his bombast & BS, he's probably not stupid enough to sell Iran actual workable IRBMs, or give them solid reliable info on how to assemble a nuclear warhead.....too many crazuies in Iran.....and missiles can be quickly re-targeted.
Or so, let's all hope!!!!! ;) ;) ;)
