At random: The Grampus and Pike were commissioned in ceremonies at Mare Island the same day, Thursday, the 28th of May 1903. A young naval officer, Lieutenant Arthur MacArthur III, older brother of General Douglas MacArthur, assumed command for both vessels at the same time.

What a wonderful and beautiful machine!

I worked for four aerospace companies during my civilian life, but never had the opportunity to work for Lockheed's "Skunk Works".  I would have loved to just see and meet Kelly Johnson.  This plane and its story was my personal favorite, but they put out many other incredible planes.

I just wonder what all those people in Palmdale, California are currently working on?
