At random: The United States submarine USS TRITON was fitted with twin reactors and was considered the longest submarine ever built until the advent of the OHIO class. The TRITON was designed for a surface displacement of 5,900 tons. Large submarines of other countries have been the Japanese I-400 (5,220 tons), and the French SURCOUF (2,880 tons).

Subject: Obit Messenger results for 10/27/07.

GOYETTE, Henry J., 89, died Thursday, October 25, 2007, in Mimi's Assisted Living Facility, New Port Richey. Born in Troy, NY, September 21, 1918, moving to Darien, CT, when he was four years old. He graduated from Darien High School and worked in Arnold's Bakers in Greenwich, CT, from 1941 to early retirement in April, 1974. At Arnold's, Henry started as a bench hand, advancing through the years to assistant vice president of production. He joined the Navy's Silent Service in 1943 and took submarine training in New London, CT. He reported aboard the newly commissioned submarine USS Chub (SS329) in October of 1944 and made three successful patrols in the South Pacific, operating from Pearl Harbor. He was honorably discharged as Baker Second Class on December 22, 1945,. He was Catholic and a life member of VFW Post 6180, New Port Richey, a member of the Suncoast Chapter of U.S. Submarine Veterans WWII, and a volunteer fireman in Noroton Heights, CT. He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda A. Goyette; his brother, Donald; sister, Katherine McAuliff; baby brother, James Eugene; parents, Dona and Anna Goyette. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth; 3 sons, James, Yucca Valley, CA, Henry Jr., Darien, CT, SSgt. Robert Goyette, Opelika, AL, who is currently serving in the Army in Baghdad, Iraq,; 2 daughter, Donna Blanchard, Sherman Oaks, CA, Elizabeth Goyette, Palm Springs, FL; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday from 12-2 pm, with Mass on Monday, 10 am, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, New Port Richey. Interment to follow at Florida National Cemetery with military honors.
