I know some of you are really cold this Saturday morning. Here in the Corner of Southwest Georgia it is Thirty two. I know at John's in Maine it is minus nineteen and probably dropping. Bet you all wish you kept any Navy Arctic gear you had. This is a picture of me hunting the back side of our farm in Pennsylvania. The jacket is Navy foul weather gear. It and a fill long coat and overalls followed my Brother home when he came back from serving on the USS Sperry in San Diego. He swore the whole outfit was from a Diesel Boat, and the result of a comshaw deal. Wish I still had it, but it disappeared while I was serving.

Can't get the picture to post here, keep getting server error. It posted just fine on Ron's Board.

Being stationed in Pearl and being from California real cold weather was alien to me,  I do remember getting A1 foul weather gear for Westpac in January of '68 - I think the gear was called that.  First snowfall I ever experienced was as a lookout  entering Tokyo Bay.  I discovered newfound appreciation for the insulated boots we were issued, and my peacoat the first night I stood topside watch in Yokosuka.

When my brother came back from Vietnam in '72, he asked me to get him a peacoat.

I just went down to the store on the lower base in Groton to buy one.

Then, by 1973, the requirement was you needed to turn in your old peacoat in order to buy a new one.

Navy said too many were being purchased for relatives and friends.

My first wife ended up with my peacoat. She wouldn't give it back. It actually looked real good on her.
