CURRY, Richard Henry "Dick", passed away in Fort Myers, Florida on November 2, 2007. The son of Henry and Frances Curry, Dick was born in Larchmont New York on March 26, 1930. Dick graduated from The Clarke School, Hanover New Hampshire and later attended the University of Toronto, Canada. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine and later on the carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt. Following Navy service he graduated from Nichols College in Boston Massachusetts with an AA degree in business administration. In his career, Dick was sales manager for Hard Sails, Islip, NY and owner of the Shore Sails loft at Huntington, NY. He also played hockey and was a lifelong hockey fan. Dick spent much time at his beloved Nassau Point on Peconic Bay, Long Island. There, he passed on his love of the sea and sailing to many young people who he mentored for many years. Two of these went on to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and another to New York Maritime Academy. One became commander of an atomic submarine; two had careers in yachting and two were competitors for the America's Cup. Dick was a member of an advisory committee for the America's Cup International Committee. Dick spent the last 18 years at Caloosa Yacht and Racquet Club in Fort Myers, Florida. There he gained many new friends. It was not unusual for him to meet someone for the first time in the afternoon and have cocktails and dinner with them that evening. Richard Curry's many friends from many places mourn the loss of this irreplaceable man. He is survived by four nephews and four nieces, children of his sister Jane Curry Romeo. They are John Romeo, Houston, Texas; Dick Romeo, Southold, New York; Mary Beth Schoeneman, Portland Oregon; Susan Martin, Huntington, New York; Katherine DeJung, Fairfax, Virginia; Judy Murphy, East Islip, New York; Steven Romeo, Southold, New York; and Peter Romeo Williamsburg, Michigan. Dick was also great uncle to 16 of their children as well as "Uncle Dickie" to many more.
