MURPHY, Joseph Andrew, died Tuesday October 23, 2007. Joe graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1942, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Submarine Signalman, attended Washington Univ. where he earned his degree in Law and was a practicing Attorney at Lucas and Murphy. Beloved husband of Gloria Murphy (nee Holladay) for 50 years; dear father of Sean (Theresa) Murphy and Kevin (Denise) Murphy; dear grandfather of Veronica (Jeremy) Pruitt, Max, Mark, Erin and Kyle Murphy; dear great grandfather of Austin and Maria; dear brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many. Services: No public services. Interment private. In lieu of flowers memorials to the charity of one's choice preferred. Arrangements by BOPP CHAPEL.
Kevin Roger Murphy - (StamfordAdvocate)


MURPHY, Kevin Roger, 79, died unexpectedly at his home in Estes Park, CO on October 6, 2007. Born in Stamford Connecticut on March 3, 1928, he graduated from Stamford High School in 1946 then enlisted in the United States Navy and qualified for the Submarine Service. In 1952 he transferred to Underwater Demolition Training (UDT) and was assigned to UDT 12 at the Amphibious Base in Coronado, CA. In 1957 he was transferred to the UDT Training Unit, which were designated the U.S. Navy Seals in 1962, where he remained until his retirement from the Navy in 1966. Following his retirement from the Navy, Kevin became a partner in San Diego Divers' Supply, the first company in the area offering specialized training and supplies for underwater diving. Utilizing the organizational skills and techniques he learned in the Navy, he developed curriculums and certification standards for instructor training that he used in seminars he conducted around the world. In addition to his wife, Gayl, he leaves his stepchildren Alison and Hilary Foshee, Jeff and Jim Erkenbeck, Tom Schnurr and Jennifer McKig and his brothers Dennis of Palm City, FL, Eugene of Wolfeboro, NH and John of Nauset, MA and Jensen Beach, FL. His parents Dennis and Carolyn Fessenden Murphy and brothers Theodore and Gordon predeceased him.


SHAFFER, Junior Carl, 80, passed away March 25, 2007 in St. Cloud, Fla. Born August 22, 1926 in Barberton, Ohio. He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Submarine Division during World War II. He loved fishing and hunting. Preceded in death by parents, Carl and Gertrude Shaffer. Survived by brother, Ray Shaffer of Nashville, Ohio; niece, Debra (Jim) Locander of San Antonio, Texas; and nephew, Lyn Allen Shaffer of Rittman, Ohio. Service will be Friday, November 9, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
