BRESLIN, John Francis, 95, of Sun City Center, Fla., departed this life on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 21, 1925. John was a US Navy veteran serving six war patrols aboard the USS Cavalla (SS-244), a submarine that sank the Japanese Aircraft Carrier Shokaku (a carrier that launched planes that bombed Pearl Harbor). He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation and the N.Y. Governors Medal for Conspicuous Service. He came from a NYC Police family. His father was a patrolman, son a detective, and himself a retired detective after 38 years of service. He received commendation medals and was a member of the Honor Legion. He was predeceased by his wife Rita, who passed in 2015. He is survived by his son John (Eileen), two beautiful granddaughters (Kristin and Colleen), and great-granddaughter (Kayleigh). He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W., Elks, Moose and was known as the “Candy Man.” A celebration of Life will take place April 16, 11 a.m. at Sun City Funeral Home, 1851 Rickenbacker Drive, Sun City Center, FL, with burial at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
ABBOTT, Edgar Clary, Jr., 75 of Roebuck, SC died Monday, February 15, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Buddy was born in Spartanburg, SC on November 22, 1945 and was the son of the late Edgar Clary and Elizabeth Louise Egner Abbott. A retired US Navy veteran serving on submarines, Mr. Abbott also retired from food services with the Spartanburg County Detention Center. He loved his wife, sons, grandchildren, family, Carnival cruising, traveling, fishing, Abby his dog, his truck and his Carolina Gamecock football team. Mr. Abbott was a 1964 graduate of Spartanburg High School and was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Julia Georgette Lewis Abbott; son, Eddie Abbott (Becky) of Pacolet, SC; grandsons, Hayden Abbott (Amy) of Roebuck, SC and Talon Abbott of Pacolet, SC; granddaughters, Julia Dare Bullman (Trey) of Roebuck, SC and Katlyn Crocker (Jonny) of Easley, SC; great-grandchildren, Coran and Watson Crocker and Clary Bullman, and sister, Arline Ruth Trim of Roebuck, SC. He was predeceased by a son, Johnny Abbott. Visitation will be held 3:00-3:45 PM Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, with funeral services following at 4:00 PM in the Chapel conducted by Mr. Donald Phillips. Burial with military honors will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family requests attendees to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
