Born 30 seconds after midnight on January 1, 1939, to Opal and Earl Moore in Springfield, Mr. Moore spent most of his youth in Springfield. At 17 years of age, he joined the Navy and served as an aviation boatswain's mate on various aircraft carriers in Asia and the Pacific region. After finishing his first hitch, he worked as a prison guard at Stateville maximum-security prison in Joliet. He then signed up for the Navy as a radio man and submariner on board the USS Halfbeak out of New London, Conn. The second half of this hitch he was assigned shore duty in Naples, Italy. After completing his time in the Navy, Mr. Moore went to Chicago to find work. At the age of 29, he started working as a radio man for ARINC in their Chicago office. He soon was promoted to supervisor of their computer department. He was later transferred to Annapolis, where he worked until his retirement in 2001. Along the way, Mr. Moore obtained his pilot's license and became a flight instructor. He has owned many airplanes and flown many hours, sometimes for hire in and sometimes in his own planes. Airplanes have always been a lifelong passion for Mr. Moore. He also was an avid reader and loved to travel. He leaves behind his wife, Alice of Chestertown, Md.; his sister, Dolores Sisti of Springfield; a niece, Sherry Wohlers of Springfield; and two nephews, Michael Sisti of Springfield and David Sisti of Milwakee.
