CURTIN, Theodore Albert, CDR, USN, Ret., 97, of Plymouth, formerly of Norwood, died in Duxbury, MA on, March 19, 2023. Loving husband of Grace (Sansone) of Plymouth; devoted father of Theodore J. and Leonard T. of Plymouth, and the late Mary Catherine Curtin; loving son of the late Dr. Timothy J. and Albertine (Mailhiot); and stepson of the late Olive (Poirier) Curtin of Norwood; brother of Timothy J., Jr. of Stamford, CT, and the late Peter M. of Chula Vista, CA. A native of Norwood, Ted was a 1949 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He served on active duty in the US Navy from 1944 to 1969 including aboard the USS Juneau in the Korean War and as commanding officer of the submarine USS Argonaut (SS-475) during the Cuban missile crisis. Following his naval career, he returned to his hometown and became a history teacher at Norwood High School from 1970-80. Retiring to Plymouth, he worked as a historical role-player aboard the Mayflower II for 17 years through 1997; and was active in social and political causes. The most important event in Ted's life was his marriage, in 1954, to Grace Sansone, his high school classmate. Their 68-year partnership of love, service and friendship touched many lives through their generosity and kindness. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 547 Washington St., Norwood, on Tuesday, March 28, at 11:00 AM. Interment Highland Cemetery, Norwood. BREED, Alan Garfield, 77, of Magnolia, Texas, passed away March 16, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents Myrtle and Herbert Breed, his sisters Virginia, June and twin sisters Brenda and Glenda, as well as his brothers Herbert Jr., Johnny and Harvey. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Kathy; his three children Alan M., Melanie, and Erin (Matt); his seven grandchildren, Alan S., Damien, Bailey, Ross, Spence, Peyton, and Nicholas; his four great-grandchildren; as well as his sister-in-law Carolyn. Alan was born September 13, 1945 in LaGrange, Georgia where he lived until moving to Houston in 1954. He was a member of the ROTC at John H. Reagan High School, where he excelled at math and science, and went on to attend Texas A&M University and become a member of the Corps of Cadets (Class of '67). Thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1967, becoming a member in the Navy’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet and serving on numerous nuclear deterrent patrols at the height of the Cold War. Alan and Kathy met while he was stationed in Idaho for nuclear propulsion training in 1969 and were inseparable until his passing. After his discharge from the Navy in 1976, they returned to the Houston area and settled in Magnolia, where they raised their family and built their home. With the transition from the Navy, Alan began his career in the oil & gas industry, working first for Hydril Company, and then spent the bulk of his career working for Cameron Iron Works (later Cameron International), as an engineer and research and development test lab manager, where he was blessed with many lifelong friendships and countless fishing and poker buddies. There will be a visitation at Klein Funeral Home (1400 W. Main, Tomball) on Thursday, March 23 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, and a graveside service, open to all, at the Houston National Cemetery (10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston 77038) on Friday, March 24 at 9:00 am. His son, son-in-law, and four of his grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include David McWhorter, Charlie Gibbs, Mike Ward, and Rick Sober. DIETZER, James Max, died at his home in Hebron while surrounded by his loving family on March 14, 2023. He was born son of James V. and Maxine (Lovelace) Dietzer in Elwood, Indiana on Aug 29, 1939. James moved with his family to Sacramento, CA where he attended school and resided until he enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17. He served honorably as a submariner and Quartermaster until he was selected to train in special operations as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) technician receiving special training as a Navy diver. He served with the EOD Group Pacific Mobile Unit based in Hawaii and completed multiple tours in Vietnam between 1965 and 1970. When asked by his grandchildren what he did in Vietnam, he often quipped that he was "a deep-diving, parachute-popping, jungle-fighting frogman." After a 13-year Naval career, James accepted a position with the State of Connecticut and after a 20-year career he retired as the Director of Purchasing at The University of CT Health Center in Farmington. A devoted father and grandfather, Jim was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed riding and training his horse and snowmobiling at his cherished cabin in Danville, VT. He was an avid reader and lover of history, and he took great pride and pleasure in the activities of his grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn. He is survived by his children Debbie Dietzer and her husband Greg Kulak of Glastonbury, Kurt Dietzer of Hebron and Jayme Sullivan and her husband Brian Sullivan of Hebron. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jacob and Juliana Kulak and Keira Sullivan and a sister, Patricia Day of Hickory, KY. Friends may call on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 10:00am to 11:00am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury. A Memorial Service celebrating Jim's life will take place in the funeral home following the calling hours. Burial with full military honors will follow in Gilead Cemetery, Hebron.
