I've been to Venice and although I have not seen the entire city, I remember the canals as being a little bigger. Most Venice commerce is conducted via canal. Thus, I go along with Coyote and chose Amsterdam. |

Water is way to clean to be Venice, now she could be a Venus follower. |

You are correct, Paul.
The canals of Venice are disgustingly polluted and dirty (in some places).
If you get there, make sure to visit the glass blower factory and watch them work.
But, unlike me, don't ask a Gondola pilot to sing O Solo Mio (after they've had a Laryngectomy).
Oh, how embarrassing. |

That is mostly in Murano, an island in Venice harbor. They have been making glass beads there for almost 600 years. Maybe more.
They are collectively called "Trade Beads": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trade_beads.
Some are very expensive, especially the older Chevron Beads. I have collected a number of these over the years. The most expensive are the 7 layer beads of which are the oldest, I have several. 5 layer are the most common and most copied. Blue is the most common color but red and green can be found from time to time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevron_bead Modern chevrons are all sorts of colors and usually made in China or India.
I use to be in the bead and jewelry business and several times a year would meet with African Bead Traders who traveled though out the US selling beads collected from all over Africa. Saw many beautiful beads. We also use to import beads from India, both glass and semi precious stone beads and make our jewelry and retail the beads at local sales events.
Beads are also, since WW II, made in Japan and the Japanese have forbidden the export of the machinery out of the country. They primarily make what is called "Seed Beads". These are very tiny beads used in jewelry and applied to clothing. We didn't deal in these beads.
My 2 cents on Venice and glass beads.
