It is a long time ago but seems like only yesterday to me. From a personal standpoint, I was joining my first ship the aircraft carrier HMS Theseus as a 17-year-old boy seaman in a real war to secure the Suez Canal from the Egyptians and I youthfully thought it all exciting. It was an Anglo-French-Israeli invasion and looked positive in achieving its objectives as the invasion fleet and forces were immense.
Progress was as predicted and the Egyptian forces were rapidly losing ground when international politics brought it all to a crashing halt. The Russians intervened and with Eisenhower reluctant to chance his next election on the venture it was finally voted down and forces were withdrawn. The link below explains this time quite accurately. I, ended up with a Suez clasp on my campaign medal to prove that I attended.

Very interesting video. I was only 7 when that occurred; so I never knew much about it.
Macmillan was the first PM I ever heard of on the news programs.

Some historians think the root cause of the flap was the partitioning after WW1.

Some also believe that we'll send our people there ad infinitum to do whatever.
