GORDON, Larry, 71, of Dobson, died at The Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on April 19, 2023. He was born to the late Leonard and Fern Key Gordon in Forsyth County on Jan. 7, 1952. After graduating from East Surry High School, he served in the US Navy Submarine Service during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he excelled in academics at Surry Community College, followed by obtaining a master's degree at Appalachian State University. He was a former Yadkin County Magistrate and prolific entrepreneur for approximately 40 years in Yadkin, Surry, Alleghany, Watauga, and Wilkes counties. During this time, Larry started and ran many successful businesses. He was a dedicated Christian who assisted many people over the years. He is survived by his loving wife, Jan Christiansen Gordon; sisters, Gay Heath and Vickie Lawson (Junior); niece, Samantha Lawson Truell (Cody); nephews, Tracy Heath and Scott Heath; stepdaughters, Darla Hoffman (Rodney) and Dana Shaw (Dennis); five step-grandchildren; and eleven step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bobby Heath. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 23, at Cox-Needham Funeral Chapel at 3 p.m. with Bro. George Evans officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home or Samaritan's Purse. Published by Mount Airy News Apr. 22, 2023.
