JADUL, Jim W. (James) of Arlington, MA died peacefully while surrounded by his family on April 29, 2023. He was born son of the late Vandelia Cooke Dziadul and Walter James Dziadul in Ipswich, MA,. Beloved husband to his "bride" Joanne M. (Basteri) Jadul. Devoted father of Jacquelyn Overberg and her husband Steven, Brian Jadul and his wife DawnMarie, and Jeffrey Jadul and his wife Kristen. 'Grampy' to Kaelyn, Kyle, Emma, Ryan, Ava, Caroline, and Jack. Oldest brother of Joni Soffron, Jack Dziadul, and the late David Dziadul. Jim had a wonderful life and lived every minute of it. At Ipswich High, Jim joined the Naval Reserve and upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and attended the Naval Submariner School in Groton, CT. He proudly served his country for 9 years as a diver, deckhand and navigator aboard some of the very first nuclear-class submarines. In 1964 while on duty as the navigator of his submarine, Jim discovered an underwater seamount off the coast of Sardinia, Italy, which could have been catastrophic for the sub and its entire crew; it was subsequently named 'Jadul Ridge'. Two years after Jim's discharge from the Navy he continued his military career in the United States Coast Guard Reserve serving for 32 years, retiring as a Commander. He had an incredible USCG resume, including: 1978 Reservist of the Year, Commanding Officer Reserve Group Boston; Letter of recognition for the 1982 World Airways incident in Boston Harbor; Commanding Officer, Reserve Group Merrimack River; Letter of Commendation for the Coordination of Sail Boston 1992; District One Inspection Team; and several Joint Task Force Operations that took him to Governor's Island, Panama, Jamaica, Guantanamo Bay, Haiti, El Salvador ~ and other places "too secret to tell". In addition to his outstanding military career, Jim managed to his BS Degree from Boston State College during a 30-year career at John Hancock Insurance Company retiring in 1996. But retirement wasn't in Jim's blood. He rediscovered his passion for the maritime industry and founded his own company, Nautical Needs, Limited. Jim took over the management of Admiral's Hill Marina in Chelsea, MA, earned his 100 Ton Master Captains License and said goodbye to long-pants for good. This 2nd (or 3rd !) career lasted 18 years and in 2014 he finally retired for good to spend winters with Joanne in Marco Island, Florida and summers aboard their happy place, the vessel 'Olivus'. His life was full and in addition to the military, family and work, Jim was a consummate volunteer. From school PTA President and condo board member at Hilton Head Island Beach and Tennis to serving as Past Commodore, Executive Board Member and lifetime member at Charlesgate Yacht Club, a 10-year finish-line VIP Grandstand volunteer for the John Hancock/BAA Boston Marathon, and Captain and organizer for the Charles River Clean Up Boat, he was always giving his time and his resources to others. We welcome all family and friends to gather, honor and remember Jim and a life well-lived, Sunday May 7th, 2023 at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St. Arlington from 5 to 8 PM. Interment will be Monday, May 8that 10:45 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. For obituary, directions or to send a condolence visit www.keefefuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to honor the care and comfort Jim received from Dr. Stone's team at Dana Farber CancerInstitute https://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/site/TR/GivingPage/MyPage?team_id=3376&pg=team&fr_id=1200 and the team at the Care Dimensions Hospice House http://giving.caredimensions.org/goto/CaptJim, Lincoln. NAGY, Robert Jules, 80 of Westport, CT, died, following a 5-month intensive battle with pancreatic cancer on April 30, 2023. Born in Fairfield, Rob lived in Westport for over 50 years. Rob enjoyed a long and successful career as an investment banker/financial advisor, starting out with Prudential Bache and having the great pleasure of spending the last 20 years of his investment career at Source Capital in Westport. Rob's golf journey took off while at Andrew Ward High School in Fairfield, where he had the privilege of being named golf team captain. He honed his sport at Gettysburg College and then later in the United States Navy, competing against other branches of the Service. Rob served in the submarine force of the US Navy during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in April of 1973. ob qualified three times for the U.S. Senior Open Championship and continued to shoot his age until the end of his life. While a stalwart competitor, one of his most endearing characteristics was how humble he was. He would play golf with anybody and enjoy the camaraderie, or he would play in Pro/AM or Celebrity tournaments with a genuine will to win. Rob was a bona fide raconteur, so spending time with him after a game meant a Black Russian cocktail and lots of laughs. Rob embodied a line from the poem "IF" by Kipling, "If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue or walk with Kings nor lose the common touch." Rob spent over 38 years as a member of the Connecticut Golf Club in Easton, winning 5 Club Championships in 4 decades along with 9 Senior Club Championships. He also had 7 holes-in one across a variety of courses. In his later years, he was an informal and generous golf teacher to family and friends. He felt that golf, as a self-regulated game, was like living a good life; deceptively simple and endlessly complicated. Rob was a devoted and loving partner to Carmen. She became the love of his life over the last 18 years. He was a proud father to Christopher, father-in law to Samantha, and a dedicated grandfather. Rob also adored his sister Joan and her children, Carmen's family and the close friends that supported his life's journey. Rob's love of golf was superseded only by his love of spending time with his grandchildren, William James and Luke Robert. Whether it was teaching them golf, cheering them on at their sporting events, enjoying a FCCC performance, or simply being the best babysitter anyone could hope for; it was by far his favorite thing to do. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 5:30pm to 8pm at The Boathouse at Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport. In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations may be made in memory of Rob to the Arminio/Effron Scholarship Fund at the University of Connecticut Foundation by using this link: s.uconn.edu/effron-nagy .
