BROWNING, Raymond Harry, 81, of Hurricane, WV, died at home on April 22, 2023. He was the only child of the late Raymond Burton Browning and the late Hazel Virginia Browning Bush of Hyndman PA. He is survived by his wife Patricia Browning; son Raymond Scott Browning of Hurricane; daughters Amy (Paul) Ashworth of Hurricane: Adrienne (Ricky) Smith of St. Albans; granddaughters Alexis Browning, Olivia Ashworth and Kelci Waldron and his fur kids Sassafras and Elsa. Ray graduated from Hyndman High School in 1959 and then attended Potomac State before entering the United States Navy. Ray served as nuclear submarine specialist during the Vietnam War. He was a proud Navy Veteran. Raymond worked his career as a master electrician with the IBEW. During his working career he worked for General Dynamics, Washington Works Dupont, Pritchard Electric and finally retired from Summit Electric Ray was an old English darter. He threw with a dart league in Charleston WV for many years. The team he competed with won a trip to Las Vegas to compete in a National Tournament. Ray loved the outdoors, hunting, quahogging, and fishing, even surf fishing in his younger years. He loved trains, old cars, Marshall University sports and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ray loved his family and was the biggest supporter of his children. He was a little league baseball umpire and a band booster president. He was proud of the accomplishments of his children and his granddaughters. Rays larger than life presence and personality will be missed by all who knew him. Rays family would like to thank the Huntington VA and all off the home health staff for their compassionate and amazing care. Also, a very special thank you to Sheila, his home health care giver and Susan and Carrie his physical therapists each of them were very special to him. Funeral services were held Saturday April 29, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home and burial was in Valley View Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 187. BUTCHER, Edgar H., Jr., 81, of Enfield and Old Lyme, CT, promoted to glory on April 30, 2023, with his beloved wife Sandra Butcher by his side. He was the son of the late Edgar H. Butcher and Charlotte (Wallen) Butcher. Ed attended Willimantic and later Manchester Public Schools, a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1960, where he was a member of the MHS Rifle Club. Following high school, he attended Hartford State Technical School, and worked at Chandler Evans in West Hartford and later at Hamilton Standard, of Windsor Locks in the bio-medical department as a Quality Control Inspector. During the Vietnam Era, Ed enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served over 23 years. He attended Submarine School in Groton, CT, Class of March 1965. After graduating, he attended Electronics Technician “A” School, then he was assigned to the USS Rock (AGSS-274) homeported at Naval Base Point Loma, in San Diego, CA, as an Electronic Technician. After two Vietnam Deployments, he transferred from Active Duty to the USN Reserves. Returning to CT, he started working at IBM as a Service Technician until his retirement at age 57. Ed was instrumental in many cost-saving improvements and awards with IBM and its customers over his years. Ed was a graduate of the First Graduation Class of 1974 at Asnuntuck Community College, with an Associate of Science in Business Management degree. Then graduated from American International College, Springfield, MA, with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Ed was very civic and charitable in many organizations over his lifetime: North Central CT Community College Founder and Chairman of the Advisory Council, later known as Asnuntuck Community College; Enfield Councilman for District 3; Enfield Planning and Zoning Chairman; Old Lyme Zoning and Planning; Sound View Beach Community Center Board Member; Friends of Enfield Police Department Board Member; United States Submarine Veterans Inc. (USSVI) member; USSVI Scholarship Committee Member and USSVI Holland Club Member. One of Ed greatest joys was taking his RV across the United States to help others with his tool bag in hand to do Mission work: Rural Mission on John’s Island, SC, Work Team Leader; Embracing People in Christ (EPIC) Work Team Leader FL; Campus Crusade for Christ, MS; NOMADS UMC, USA; Hurricane Katrina Rebuild, MS; Life Enrichment Center UMC, FL; We Go Global, WV; and Salem Economic Ministries, Salem, ME. Ed was also very active with the Hazardville United Methodist Church over the years serving as the Current Expense Treasurer, Board of Trustee Member, Youth Leader, and Head Usher. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sandra Geer Butcher; his devoted daughters Tamara Bourque (James) and Tracy Craven (Bruce). He is also survived by his sister, Gayla Butcher. Proud grandfather to Kristin Holbrooks (Adam), Nicholas Craven, Erika Bourque, Melissa Gutierrez (Fernando) and Tyler Craven, as well as great-granddaughters, Lena and Alissa Holbrooks. On May 7, 2023, at one o’clock in the afternoon, A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hazardville United Methodist Church, 330 Hazard Avenue, Enfield, CT.
