SHELTON, John Hurt, 76, of Chatham, Va., died at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital on May 3, 2023. Mr. Shelton was born on June 2, 1946, in Pittsylvania County, to the late George Preston Shelton and the late Annie Craft Shelton. He was married to Linda Oakes Shelton for 53 years. Mr. Shelton proudly served his country in the United States Navy for three and a half years on the submarine USS Irex (SS-482). He came back to Chatham and worked at Ennis Business Forms, and later at Times Fiber, where he was #1-time clock employee. After 35 years of employment there, he retired in 2008. He was a member of Sheva Church of Christ. In addition to his beloved wife of the residence, he is also survived by his daughter, Cindy M. Shelton; one grand dog, two grand cats; one sister, Ann Shelton Robinson; and one brother, George Shelton (Debbie). In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by two sisters, Betty Lou Shelton and Sudie Shelton Petibone. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023, 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham, Va., with Tim Oakes, Minister officiating. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Gretna Post 232 / Altavista Post 36, P.O. Box 675 Gretna, VA 24557.Norris Funeral Services in Chatham, Va. is serving the family.
