JAMES, John Brent, 77, a loving father, devoted husband, respected Navy veteran, and well-regarded member of the community, died on June 3, 2023. He was born the son of George and Eloise James in Charleston, SC on February 2, 1946. John served his country honorably as a member of the US Navy, dedicating 12 years in the submarine service to defend the values he held dear. Following his military career, John found fulfillment in various professional pursuits. His work ethic, expertise, and innovative ideas earned him the admiration and respect of colleagues and clients in the automotive manufacturing industry. He was known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to find creative solutions to complex challenges. John will be remembered for his kindness, his integrity, his warm and infectious smile and his endless Grateful Dead catalog. He was preceded in death by his wife, Valerie, and his older brother, Tom. John James is survived by his son Jeremy, daughter-in-law Lori, grandchildren Ella and Cade, and his sister Vona.


MCFARLANE, John David, died on Sunday July 13, 2014. John was born in Snoqualmie Washington on August 31, 1963. He graduated from Mount Si High School in 1981. Following high school Dave served his country in the United States Navy from 1981 to 1986. Dave was stationed on the submarine USS George Washington Carver (SSBN-656) as an EM Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator-Electrical. After his time in the Navy, David went to work at the Boeing Company in Everett, where he spent the next 25 years primarily on the 747 and 777 wing lines. Dave always had a deep interest in history and was always watching the history channel or reading anything about history. Dave always said, “We need to learn from the past.” Dave loved to bungee jump, parachute out of perfectly good airplanes, ride motocross, snow skiing, and traveling. David married Jenny (Anderson) Nov. 11, 1995. They had two sons, John Tyler and Jordan Alexander. He has 3 brothers Rick (Kim), Ryan, Tony, and a sister, Jackie. Also surviving is his Mother, Betty Zima. He was preceded in death by his father, John Robert Mcfarlane, grandma, Mary; Grandpa, John Clyde; Grandma Pearl, and Grandpa Frank. A graveside committal will be held 2:30pm, Monday, July 21, 2014 at Tahoma National Cemetery. A reception will follow. McGAWN, Malcolm M., 81, of Valparaiso, died Thursday June 1, 2023. He was born to the late Merrill and Frances (Cooper) McGawn in Melrose Park, Illinois on July 17, 1941. Graduating valedictorian in the class of 1959 from West Chicago Community High School, West Chicago, Illinois, Malcolm went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut class of 1963. He worked as a Park Ranger at Carlsbad Caverns National Park in 1964. He served in the US Navy Submarine Service from 1964-1970, serving as an officer on the USS Halibut (SSN-587). Halibut won a Presidential Unit Citation for finding and photographing the sunken Soviet sub K-129 on the floor of the Pacific. Following his service, Malcolm earned his Master of Mathematics degree from the University of Wyoming in 1972. He then was employed as instructor and engineer at the Westinghouse Nuclear Training Center, Zion, Illinois and at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, San Clemente, California. A devout Christian, worshipping and serving in churches around the country, most recently Malcolm was a member at Christ Lutheran Church, Valparaiso, Indiana, since 2010. He was a runner for 66 years, 1956-2022, setting school records in the mile while in high school and college. Since 1980, Malcolm ran over 53,000 miles, more than twice around the world. Also, an avid reader, he especially enjoyed the novels of Tom Clancy, Brad Thor (thrillers), Elmer Kelton and Charles West (westerns), Patrick O’Brian and C.S. Forester (sea stories). On October 12, 1968 in Delhi, NY, Malcolm married Marilyn Maxwell who survives along with their children, Lani (Greg) Fisher of Valparaiso and Mike (Jessica) McGawn, of Edina, MN. Proud & loving Grandpa to Caroline, Chris and Collin Fisher and Brady and Janie McGawn. Also survived by his sisters, Janet Bozedarevic of Waukesha, WI and Carolyn Morris of Pleasant Hills, TN. A Memorial Gathering will be held on June 30, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church 2610 N. Campbell St, Valparaiso, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 11:00 AM. The service will also be livestreamed. Private family graveside services were held at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, ALS Association, or VNA Hospice of NWI.


SEIFRIDSBERGER, Kevin L., 60, of Route 22 in Cherry Plain, died at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy under the care of Hospice on Friday, June 2, 2023. Kevin was surrounded by his family and had been battling a long illness. Born in Cohoes, Kevin was the son of the late Gerald J. and Henrietta M. Smyth Seifridsberger, and the beloved husband of Edith Gonyea Seifridsberger. Kevin grew up in the "Alps" in the Town of Nassau and was a graduate of the Liberty Christian Academy in 1982. Kevin entered the Navy in 1983 and served on submarines before his discharge in 1987. After the Navy, Kevin worked for Johnson Controls in Albany, then worked in the factory at Taconic Plastics and lastly was a driver for Earl T. Wadhams Co. in Cambridge until his retirement in 2022 due to illness. Kevin was a model train collector and enjoyed motorcycle riding and dirt bike riding. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son, Philip M. Seifridsberger of Cherry Plain; his brother, Everett (Mary) Seifridsberger of Pittstown; his sister, Cathleen (Late Glenn) Rathbun of Stephentown; and several nieces and nephews and Gonyea in-laws. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. If desired, the family request donations in memory of Kevin L.
