I understand that the one that was there in 1964 isn't the same one that is there now. I remember something about it being rebuilt because the old one was rotten or something. |

You are right.
I found that USS Neversail was decomissioned in 1967 and was rebuilt in 1982.
It was remodeled from a Destroyer to a Guided Missile Frigate.

That was the nickname we had for the nuclear submarine Queenfish in the '68 timeframe. We seemed to be tied up quite a bit next to her when we'd come back from local weekly operations. She was brand new to us and it seemed that she had more problems than the other nucs. Rumor was that she was replaced by a diesel boat on one of her scheduled runs. I think she was the newest nuc at Pearl then. During the hurricane that hit Hawaii in the 70's she was one of three boats that supposedly used their reactors to power Oahu as the storm had knocked out electrical power. |

Queenfish was the first 637 commissioned. There were some bugs to work out. Sturgeon spent some time at the pier also |

I recall beig told that was the same for the Barb in Pearl around 1970. I was on Gudgeon at the time but SSN 596 (the second Barb) was wielded to the pier in Pearl. From what I understand Adm. Fluckey was COMSUBPAC and Barb was his show boat. They never went anywhere and the other boats had a bad taste in their mouth because of it. |

We pulled into Guam in March 1968 needing a new #2 'scope having busted the top off it on ice off Wonsan, North Korea.
We moored to the tender and on the other side was Queenfish with a RADCON barge, I was told, alongside. |

I toured Sturgeon a number of times at EB while in New construction with Flasher. Last time I saw her she was yet to be commissioned and then the next time I saw her all there was left was her sail at the Keyport museum. |

Barb was supposedly at Pearl when we were there but I never recall seeing her as she was probably in when we were out and vice-a-versa. I left Pearl in 1968. |
