GREGORY, John Milton, 75, died in Avon, IN on June 6, 2023. He was born to James Gilbert & Marjory Janet (Take) Gregory on December 10, 1947. After graduating high school, John joined the US Navy, and was a communications technician where his security clearance took him to serve aboard the submarine USS Greenling (SSN-614), and various other classified jobs around the country. John served honorably from 1967 to 1971. John married the love of his life, Mollie (Peregrine) in 1974. They were married 48 years before her passing on April 19, 2023. Together John and Mollie loved to travel, especially to New Orleans where they experienced the finest things in life. They were avid racing fans of the Indianapolis 500, and John loved camping, hiking, fishing, golf, hunting, and everything outdoors. He loved running, participating in a few half marathons. John is survived by his sister Kathy (Phil) Sepiol of Valparaiso. He was preceded in death by his parents Gil & Janet Gregory, and his beloved Mollie. In lieu of flowers, donate to honor John to the Avon Federation of Teachers Scholarship Fund, c/o Megan Erickson, Avon High School, 7575 Oriole Ave, Avon, IN 46123. KESMODEL, Charles M. Jr, of Fort Myers, FL entered eternal life on May 30, 2023. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Margaret W. Kesmodel of Lexington, KY. Charles volunteered for the US Navy submarine service, and was a veteran of the Korean war. After receiving his honorable discharge, he entered Marshall University, Huntington, WV, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in marketing in May 1958. He was married to Wilma Jane Martin on September 7, 1956, in Charleston, WV. Following graduation, he was employed by two major oil companies serving in marketing management for twenty years. in 1979 Charles moved to Culver, IN and with his wife purchased and managed several business holdings. He and his wife retired and moved to Florida in 2003. Charles was a lifetime member of the VFW and member of the American Legion. During his business career he was named to Who's Who in America in the Midwest, served on the board of directors of several business associations and held a commission as an Honorable Kentucky Colonel. Charles was a member of the Village Church, and Shell Point retirement community. Charles is survived by his wife Wilma, three sons, one daughter, one brother, ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Cremains will be placed in a crypt, Shrine of Faith, Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, Lexington, KY. KRINER, Terry Lee, 84, died in his home in Mont Alto, PA on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Born the son of the late John Kriner and Anna (Burger) Coldsmith in Waynesboro, PA on January 31, 1939. He graduated from Waynesboro Senior High School with the Class of 1956. Mr. Kriner served in the United States Navy for 10 years as a nuclear power electrician. He served on the submarines USS Perch and USS Alexander Hamilton (SSBN-617). He was honorably discharged on April 15, 1966. He and his wife of over 62 years, Judy A. (Creager) Kriner, were married on August 7, 1960, in Mont Alto. Following his discharge, Mr. Kriner worked at Fairchild Republic Division, Hagerstown, MD Landis Machine Company, Waynesboro, Harry Kahn Associates, Inc., Hagerstown and JLG/USTC, York, PA. He later worked for Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove for nearly 20 years. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Waynesboro, the Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Department, where he served in several capacities, including chief and treasurer for over 17 years and the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc, where he was the local treasurer for 14 years. Mr. Kriner enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, word searches, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Kim Shank and her husband, Eric of Waynesboro, Jeff Kriner and his wife, Linda of Mont Alto and Missy Smetzer of Mont Alto; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rosie Pulaski. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in Grace Baptist Church, 623 N. Grant St., Ext., Waynesboro with Pastor John Scahill officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. he family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Tuesday afternoon, in the church. SCHOONEJANS, Emil Joseph, 98, of Huntington, NY died June 1, 2023. He was a US Navy WWII Veteran of the submarine "silent" service, SW Pacific, earned the Submarine Combat Insignia. He qualified in submarines on USS Burrfish (SS-312) in 1945 and was a TM2(SS) when he left the Navy. Academy of Aeronautics graduate; launched a successful career in aviation. Flight crew TWA's Constellations, 727's, and 747's. Director of Flight Training at JFK. Member of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, President of US Submarine Veterans WWII New York Runner Chapter, Free Mason, Shriner of El Zaribah (Phx, AZ), and friend of St. John's Episcopal Church, CSH. Beloved husband of the late Edna (RN). Loving father of Lynn, Laura and Mitch. Cherished grandfather of Coral (Jon) Sokolowski. Emil loved home, family, woodworking, golf, swimming and being a friend to all. Visitation Monday, June 12 from 3 PM - 7 PM at the A.L. VANDEN BRINK, Richard Jr., died at Pendleton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Mystic, CT on June 8, 2023. He was born to Richard Vanden Brink Sr. and Elizabeth Mary (Stachulak) Vanden Brink on May 4, 1949. Richard was a typical child. He graduated from St. Willibrord Catholic School. Went on to graduate from Thornton Township High School with high honors in auto shop. He joined the US Navy in June 1969 and served until June 1975 in the submarine service, stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln (SSBN-602) as a MM3 (SS) E-4. He met his wife Marie Ellen while he was stationed at the US Submarine Base in Groton/New London, CT on Jan 19, 1972. Richard Jr. and Marie were married on Jan. 19, 1974 at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Warrenville (Ashford), CT. by the bride’s uncle, Rev. Norbert E. Belliveau. After being honorably discharged in 1975, he returned to his trade as a Master Auto Technician in Chicago, ILL. as owner of Rich’s Tune Up Center. In 1989 he moved back to Norwich, CT with his wife, Marie, to help take care of her mother. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2010. He fought a good long fight through all his cancer diagnosis and treatments. In 2012 he retired as Shop Foreman at Mallon Chevrolet dealership in Norwich, CT. Survivors include his wife, Marie Ellen Vanden Brink of 49 years, sister Frances Mancilla, brother Mark R. Vanden Brink, nieces Tracie Lee (Tobin) Viehweg, Tara Elizabeth Viehweg, Jungels (Nathan), Kendall Leigh Swann, Sydney Elizabeth Swann, nephews Michael H. Swann, Zachary Viehweg, brother-in-laws Edward L. Oloff Jr., Leonard F. Oloff (Karen/Leah), Norbert E. Oloff (Alison), sisters-in-law Eileen M. Quinn (Richard Jr.), Judi Gillis-Oloff (Michael) predeceased him, nieces Lori (Oloff) Bettencourt (Brian), Charlotte C. (Oloff) McLevy (Alan), Tara Marie Quinn, nephews Edward L. Oloff III, Mark E. Oloff (Stephanie), John Gillis Sr., Richard G. Quinn III and John Gillis Jr. He was a loving brother, husband, and friend to all who knew him. Richard you are gone from the earth but your spirit lives in our heart; sadly and lovingly missed by all who knew you. We want to thank all the staff of Pendleton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center who did exceptional care for him. We are so grateful he was able to be a resident there. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 20th. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Boswell Ave., Norwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
