DEROCHER, Paul S., 75, of Raynham, died after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was a proud graduate of THE Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!) with a B.S. in Architecture with post-grad studies in architecture and engineering after serving three years in the US Navy submarine service. His engineering experience and design background provided him with diverse opportunities to use his talents. His professional achievements include involvement with the Greenland Ice Sheet Project funded by the NSF designing several buildings for the US base located in the South Pole. He was also involved in the construction of the American Spirit Home, showcased at the U.S. pavilion at the 1992 World’s Fair in Spain. He was later employed by Hanscom AFB as an engineering specialist coordinating civil engineering projects. Like “McGuiver”, Paul had an uncanny ability to fix and improve any house or garden issue and had the patience to meticulously complete any project with perfection. As often as possible and as long as he was able, Paul was a regular blood and platelet donor and so amassed countless numbers of T-shirts from the American Red Cross. He was an avid coin and stamp collector, car enthusiast, and amateur golfer. Marveling at nature, he would hunt Lady Slipper orchids in the woods and explore sea life on the bottom of the Brewster Flats. He was a loving husband and committed father to his two daughters, his biggest treasure. He is survived by his wife, Irene. daughters Laura Derocher of Brattleboro, VT, and Danielle Michelson of Burlington, VT, mother of Paul’s granddaughters Hannah and Rachel, and her husband, Dr. Jim Michelson. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Monday, July 10th at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. memorial Mass at St. Ann Catholic Church, 660 N. Main St., Raynham. The inurnment will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
