HANNAN, Kevin Martin, 68, died surrounded by his loving family in Oak Ridge, TN on June 30, 2023,. He died after a short but fierce battle with pancreatic cancer. Kevin grew up in Long Island, NY. He was the third boy in a family of six kids, five brothers and one sister. He spent his childhood days hanging out with his close-knit family and friends. He excelled at school, especially math, with minimal effort. He was well known by all his teachers as he never failed to speak his mind. After his high school graduation, he was accepted to the Naval Academy where he majored in mechanical engineering. Following his college graduation he served in the Navy, working on submarines, for five years. He then continued his military career in the reserves, retiring from the military in 1999. After his college graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Stephanie, after dating for over seven years. To be with these two was to be in the presence of true love. He adored her. Kevin and Stephanie left New York and eventually lived in Pennsylvania, Alabama, and Tennessee. They raised two children, Cailin and Kevin, and he was an amazing and involved dad. He was always there to help with homework, watch a cheer routine, cheer at baseball games, or just watch a show as a family. Kevin and his family ended up in Oak Ridge, TN where he worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a business owner. He and Steph were happily married for 44 years, and they took great pride in watching their children start their lives in Georgia. He is preceded in death by his father, James Hannan, mother, Margaret Hannan, and brother, James Hannan. He leaves behind his wife Stephanie, the absolute love of his life. He will forever be missed by his daughter, Cailin, his son, Kevin, his daughter-in-law, Candace, and his granddaughters, Madelyn and Abigail. His granddaughters were the light of his life as he loved nothing more than being a Grandpa. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry (Chiu), Michael (Christy), Daniel (Chris), and sister, Kathleen (John). Kevin had recently retired and spent the last few years bowling with his wife, rowing, mastering darts, and drinking with friends at his favorite local spot. He and Steph traveled to Georgia frequently to visit their children and grandchildren, never missing an event. He was easy to love. He will be remembered for his silly sense of humor, how he happily fixed everything for anyone, and just how fun it was spending time with him. He was the ultimate family man to his wife, kids, grandkids, siblings, nieces, and nephews. If Kevin was in your life, he would have played an important role. That was just the kind of man he was. He was brilliant and kind, handy and helpful, and the hilarious life of every party. His family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Just like Kevin would have wanted, his family is leaning on one another, remembering the joy he brought to so many. His impact on those lucky enough to have known him will last forever. His family will host a celebration of his life in September. Posted online on July 10, 2023. Published in The Oak Ridger
