FAEHNRICH, Devon Jeffery, was born in Denver, Colorado October 18, 2001. He is the oldest of three children born to Debbie and Jeffrey Faehnrich. Devon attended Legacy High School and graduated in 2020. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in hopes of becoming a Naval Aviator. Devon loved the outdoors. He grew up hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. He was a natural born athlete. He grew up playing and loving competitive sports, like soccer, football, and wrestling. He was always up for an adventure and spent his winters snowboarding and summers enjoying water sports and golfing. Devon was fearless in everything he did. Learning to snow ski is usually a little intimidating for most people, but not Devon. As soon as he was able to stand up on skis, Devon bombed down the hill and flew off of a jump. The crash at the bottom of the jump didn't slow him down, he actually hit the jump with more speed on his next attempt. Some of his most memorable moments include countless hours of video games, board games with the family, dancing, and traveling around the country. His favorite football team was the Denver Broncos. He began his journey with the United States Navy in April 2021. Upon completing recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Electronics Technician Navigation "A" School in Groton, Connecticut prior to reporting to his first operational duty assignment. On March 30, 2022, he reported to the Navigation Department on the Virginia-class submarine, Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) USS Montana (SSN-794) in Norfolk, VA. He was a member of the crew during the ship's commissioning which gave him the prestigious honor of becoming a Plankowner. Survived by his mother Debbie, father Jeffery, sisters Emily and Lindsey, his grandparents Georg and Linda Faehnrich, Barbara Whelan, Dana and Pam Whelan. He is also survived by his many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; Aunt Belinda (Ryan) Hollingstead and their children Noah and Annmarie. Aunt Cori Whelan and son Sean Lewis; Uncle Scott (Brianna) Whelan and sons; Kollin, Dalton, Caden, Rylan (deceased); Aunt Cathy (Eric) Roberts and children; Alyssa, Christian, Abby, Sydnee, and Sophie; Uncle David (Andrea) Whelan and daughters; Chloe, Avery, and Eden; Aunt Kristin (Ryan) Smith.His dogs Kona and Daisy. Visitation Wednesday, April 12th from 9:30 - 10:00 a.m., with the service at 10:00 a.m. at Olinger Chapel Hill, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, CO 80121. Committal service, with Navy military honors will take place at noon at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Gather at Staging area "A." A reception will follow from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Olinger Chapel Hill.


MILLER, Roland, 88, of Tom Bean, Texas - Formerly a long-term resident of Nashua, NH died on Friday June 9, 2023, at the TMC Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born June 27, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Edward and Ruth (Jaeckel) Miller. Ron was a veteran of the US Navy Submarine Service achieving the highest enlisted rank of Master Chief Petty Officer over his distinguished 24 years of service. He served in the Korean War as well as several tours within the Vietnam theater of operation. Master Chief Miller was very involved with the local VFW Post 5791, rising through its local leadership ranks then to the state level achieving his appointment as the State VFW Commander for the Department of New Hampshire serving his term from 2009 - 2010. Mr. Miller was also a proud member of the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), the local American Legion Post, and the Military Order of the Cootie (MOC). After retiring from the Navy, Mr. Miller worked for International Shoe Machine Corporation as an Industrial Supervisor then retired again after more than a decade with Lockheed Martin/BAE Systems. He was widowed by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn C. Miller, who passed away on December 19, 2014. Roland is survived by his three children: Colleen (Miller) Elways and her husband James of Nashua, Cheryl (Miller) Carter and her husband Craig of Nashua and Ron Miller Jr and his wife Pauline of Tom Bean Texas. Roland is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Roy, Jessica Elways, Daniel Miller, Alyssa Kusmin, Katherine Carter, and Allison Aubut. Four great grandchildren; Tyler Roy, Penelope Camirand, Jackson Kusmin, and Thomas Miller, his sister Debbie Klimo and her husband Robert, of Olmstead Township, Ohio as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins. Roland was predeceased by his brother Thomas Owen Miller and a sister Ruthann Smith-Coon. A grave side service will take place at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 DW Highway, Boscawen, NH at 10:00 am, Monday August 14, 2023.


TROIKE, Charles G., who resided in Punta Gorda, Florida, went peacefully to meet his Heavenly Father on Father’s Day June 18, 2023, while surrounded by family in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born to Gilbert and Alma (Ohlemacher) Troike in Sandusky, Ohio on May 26, 1936. He served in the US Navy Submarine Service from 1956-1960. He was employed in the corrugated paper industry as a designer and salesman for 40 years. He was an avid boater, fisherman, and charter captain. He was active in Sandusky Elks Lodge, Sandusky Yacht Club, F&AM Science Lodge #50, Singara Grotto, Sandusky Power Squadron, Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club, Peace River Sail and Power Squadron, Punta Gorda Boat Club, and Punta Gorda Elks Lodge #2606. His commitment and involvement to these organizations was exemplary, rising to Commodore of the Yacht Club, Rear Commander of the National Operations Training Committee for the Power Squadron, and Elks Hall of Fame for 50 years of service, just to mention a few. He also earned Senior Navigator status with the Power Squadron and earned 50 merit marks for years of service to the organization. In addition, he officiated swimming at area high school, district, state, USA, and NCAA swimming meets in Ohio and nationally for 39 years. In 2001, he was inducted into Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame. He was the first swimming official ever to be nominated and inducted into the Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara; sons, Michael and Kevin; and grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Kristan, and Ashley. Published by Sandusky Register on Jul. 29, 2023.


WALKER, Peter W., died in June 2023 due to complications of Parkinson's. His three children survive him: Victoria, Phillip, and Gwendolyn; and his five grandchildren, whom he cherished. Born in 1934, the second of three children to Elwyn Walker and Blanche Kyhl in Portland, Ore. He attended Ockley Green Elementary School and later Jefferson High School. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and became a submariner for two years on the USS Carp (SS-338), where he traveled to Hawaii, Japan, and Korea. He could often be seen wearing his USS Carp cap. After the Navy, Pete returned to Portland, rekindled a relationship with a high school friend and married in 1957. He attended Portland State and later the University of Oregon where he earned a Master of Political Science degree. He taught humanities, American Studies, and International Relations at Clackamas High School for over 30 years. Throughout his career he pursued ways to improve his interests and understanding of the world. In 1967 Pete participated in a teacher exchange program sponsored by the state department at East/West Center in Hawaii to study Asian culture. He, along with a group of teachers representing the United States, went to Thailand to start a six-week field study of Asian countries. As a result, he introduced Asian studies into the curriculum in North Clackamas School District. He was also the chair of the Oregon Council of Social Sciences. As a union activist he served on the Fair Dismissal Board for the state of Oregon and developed a code of ethics for teachers. He started a program with the cooperation of Portland State University that enabled upper-level students to earn college credit. He loved participating in the Model United Nations at the state level and was an International Club Advisor. He loved reading, tennis, jazz, bicycling and spontaneously dancing. Upon retirement, he volunteered as an escort at Planned Parenthood and for Habitat for Humanity. Then joined the Peace Corps in 1993 and taught at Palacky University in Olomouc, CR. During his two-year assignment he traveled throughout Western and Eastern Europe some of those times with his children. Upon returning to the US, he co-translated two books with a Japanese professor, Yos**taro Nishimura. They toured Japan together visiting the locations that were written about in the short stories. A celebration of Pete's life will be held at the Kennedy School, Aug. 6, 2023. A program will begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner.
