HECKEL, Dr. Robert Heckel, 90, formerly of Warren, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023.
Dr. Heckel was born on October 11, 1932 in Painesville, Ohio and grew up in Madison, Ohio, the only child of Edward and Ann Heckel.

In 1955, he married Margaret Mavko with whom he had four children.
In 1957, Dr. Heckel received a DMD from Case Western Reserve University.
From 1957-1962, he also served the United States Navy Submarine Force, stationed at Norfolk, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He achieved the rank of Lt. Commander.
Dr. Heckel’s specialty training included the Univ. of Pennsylvania School of Graduate Medicine and residencies in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital, VA hospitals and Emory University in Atlanta, and Charity Hospital, Tulane and LSU in New Orleans. He returned to Case Western Reserve and University Hospital to complete a residency in anesthesiology.
Dr. Heckel entered private practice in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Warren, Ohio in 1965, residing in Howland Township. Practicing until 2002, he could count thousands as patients that he served in the region, both in his office and the hospital, often well after hours in emergencies. His children remember him regularly returning late to dinner or rushing out in the middle of it! Among his surgical patients were Earnie Shavers and other boxers represented by Don King. He took great pride in advancing his specialty and bringing those skills to his practice.
Dr. Heckel was a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and served as an Examiner for the American Board of Maxillofacial Surgery for six years. He also served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Joseph Hospital, President of Medical Staff at St Joseph Hospital, a Member of the Board of Humility of Mary Corporation, President of the Great Lakes Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Site visitor for accreditation for The Council on Dental Accreditation.
After retiring from practice, in 2005, Dr. Heckel was asked to serve as a Clinical Associate Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery at his alma mater Case Western Reserve University’s University Hospitals. There he worked until earlier this year, and he was proud to have been the oldest person ever to have held the position. He cherished and enjoyed this position, and in recognition of his teaching dedication, each year the outstanding oral maxillofacial surgery resident at CWRU/University Hospital is presented with The Robert D Heckel Award.
Preceding him in death were his parents and first wife.
He is survived by his wife Linda of 33 years; four children, Robert Heckel, Laurie Heckel, John (Nena) Heckel and Katherine (Melek) Kayser and his grandchildren of whom he was very proud, Theodore (Lauren), Elizabeth, Audrey, Evelyn and John. Additionally, he will be missed by his beloved Golden Retriever, Shadow.
Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Dr. Heckel on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 3020 Reeves Road NE Warren, Ohio, where a Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Christopher Cicero presiding.
Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 979 Tibbetts Wick Road, Suite A, Girard, OH 44420; BestFriends.org OR a charity of the giver’s choice.

PARISH, Douglas W Parish 1938-2023 Douglas Wayne Parish, 85, of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Douglas was born on March 10, 1938, in Hood River, Oregon to Claude E. and Lucille Arnold Parish. Douglas was a retired Navy Veteran of 26 years, 24 of them on submarines. Douglas also worked at Mountain States Telephone and was a technician for a TV Ministry, Eternal Good Tidings in Sacramento, CA. He was a member of Fleet Reserve, loved old westerns and traditional Country Western music. His hobbies included macrame', latch hook and he was an avid motorcyclist for many years with the Capital City Motorcycle Club. Douglas is survived by his wife, Janet R. Spuhler Parish; daughters, Patricia A. McIlwain, Laura L. Burkhart (Gregory), Nancy L. McEntee (Joseph); son, Victor I. Parish; nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lucille; brother, Charles Parish, and sister, Elsie Cramer. A celebration of life will be held at Cheyenne Church of Christ on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 9:30 am. An interment with military honors will be held in Miller, Nebraska on Saturday, September 16th, at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow. O’BRIEN, James P. O’Brien of Winthrop, Hudson, NH and Acton, ME passed away on August 31 at the age of 89.He graduated from Boston English High School and Bay State College. He joined the US Navy in 1953 and served on active duty until 1961. He attended US Naval Training 1st Regiment – Company 207 in Bainbridge, MD. and Submarine School -Class 114 at the US Submarine Base, New London, Connecticut in 1954. James served as a crew member on the USS Redfin 272.?
Upon leaving the Navy, he worked for Eversource for 38 years and resided in Winthrop, Hudson NH, and Acton ME.  He was an elected officer and Treasurer of Local 392 Boston-Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO (UWUA) and was an active member of the US Submarine Veterans – Marblehead Base. His greatest enjoyment in life were being on the water with his family and friends. Born in Boston, he was the beloved son of the late James H. and Catherine (Tierney) O’Brien. He was a longtime resident of Winthrop. He was the devoted husband of the late Judith (O’Connor) and the loving father of James J. O’Brien of Hooksett, NH, John F. O’Brien and his wife, Sandra of Wilmington and Joseph C. O’Brien of Winthrop; adored grandfather of James O’Brien and his wife, Bridget, Joseph O’Brien and his wife, Emily, John O’Brien and his fiancée, Christine Caulfield, Christopher O’Brien and his partner, Florentina Gutierrez and two great grandchildren, Nora, and James O’Brien. He was the dear brother of the late Ethel (O’Brien) Cullity of Medford. James is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Monday, September 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow in St Michael the Archangel Parish at 11:30 a.m. followed by a gathering at the Cottage Park Yacht Club (CPYC) after the Mass. DOWNS Joseph T. Downs, 71, of Bellingham, MA, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Born in Natick, MA, Joseph was the son of the late Robert Charles and Rita Elizabeth (Hayes) Downs. Joseph was a veteran of the United States Navy. During the 1970’s Joe served as a nuclear reactor operator on the USS George Washington Carver submarine (SSBN 656) based in Rota, Spain. After serving in the Navy, Joe worked as a software engineer in different startup companies as well as larger network companies. Joe retired from his last role as principal engineer at Crossbeam Systems in Boxborough Mass. Music played an important role in Joe’s life. He played guitar and piano but it was the bass that he enjoyed the most. Joe was known as “one of the best bass players around”. Joe’s bass playing improved the rhythm section of many local bar bands over the last 45 years. He will be sorely missed by the music community. Joe also excelled in physics and mathematics. Solving mathematical problems was one of his passions, but for the past 50 years he always looked forward to his yearly camping trips to Maine with his lifelong friends. Thankfully, he was able to make that trip for the last time in August. He is survived by three brothers, Robert Downs of Bedford, MA, John Downs of Bellingham, MA and David Downs of Denver, CO, and three sisters, Maureen O’Neil of Brookline, NH, Rita Bell of Holliston, MA, and Helen Downs of Sarasota, FL, and many nieces and nephews He was also the brother of the late Charles Downs, Daniel Downs, Jeanne Finnerty and Anna Downs. He will be deeply missed by his best friends of 55 years, John Burke and Bob Coffin. Joe is also survived by his friend Hien Bui who will miss him dearly. Visiting hours will take place on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 4-7 PM at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, NATICK COMMON. BUTSON James Lee (Jim) Butson, age 73, of Wells, MN, died Tuesday, September 5, 2023.  The family will be having a private celebration of life at a later date. Jim was born October 22, 1949 in Waterloo, IA, the son of Wallace and Winifred “Wink” (Knuths) Butson. Jim graduated from Wells-Easton High School, the class of 1967.  After graduation, Jim enlisted in the Navy and served from 1969 to 1975, most of that time in nuclear submarines. He furthered his Navy electronics education at Austin Vocational and Technical College in Austin, MN. Over the years Jim was willing and able to work a variety of jobs from electronics to truck driving and wood working.  He was passionate about hunting, and was a lifelong music, movie and motorcycle enthusiast. Jim is survived by his siblings: Pamela Lund of Rochester, MN, John (Patricia) Butson of Laurinburg, NC, Connie (Bill) Allis of Wells, and Patrick Butson of Swansea, SC; 6 nieces and nephews and their spouses; 8 great-nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Butson and sister-in-law, Sharon Butson.
DRISKELL Robert W Driskell, MSCM (SS), RET., 77, lost his battle to cancer on Sunday, September 4, 2023. He was born December 26, 1945 in Washington, D.C.  Bob was raised in Newark, NJ where as a bored, restless, and heading for trouble teen he enlisted in the Navy in 1962.  After completing bootcamp, he opted to join the Submarine Force.  His first command, the diesel boat, USS Bugara SS-331, entered the Tonkin Gulf on the first war patrol of the Vietnam War.  Bob went on to serve on the USS C. Pulaski SSBN 633, USS Lafayette SSBN 616, USS G. P. Lysocomb SSN 685 and USS JC Calhoun SSN 630.  His shore command included Dam Neck, RTC Orlando as a Company Commander, Navy Food Management Team, Command Master Chef, Navy Food Service Systems Office, and the SUBIANT Force Food Service Master Chief.  Along the way Bob earned a Business degree from Columbia College and a Culinary degree from Johnson and Wales.  Retiring after a 30-year career, Bob worked for Saunders Provision Company and SYSCO Foods. He was predeceased by his first wife, mother, and stepfather. Bob is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susan, a pack of fur babies, numerous in-laws, cousins and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, please support the Chesapeake Humane Society. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10-12pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Chesapeake Chapel, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake. A funeral service with full miliary honors will follow at 12pm. Bob will be laid to rest at Hampton National Cemetery, Hampton. LIVEZEY James H. Livezey, age 78 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Born in Woodbury, NJ, August 4, 1945, he was the son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Underwood) Livezey.
During his teenage years, he attended Sandy Spring Friends School, Sandy Spring, MD, a private boarding high school. He had lived in Deptford, NJ most of his life, but had also resided in Exton, PA, and Raritan Township, NJ since 2012.
He was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War era, serving primarily on the submarine USS Will Rogers from 1965-1971.
A commercial electrician by trade, he was formerly employed by EMD Chemical Company, Gibbstown, NJ.
James was a member of the Quakertown Friends Meeting, Quakertown, NJ; a decade long volunteer for the Black River & Western RR, Ringoes, NJ; and an avid Harley-Davidson and Corvette enthusiast. Most importantly however, he was an avid spectator of his step-grandchildren's Lambertville sports.
He will be remembered as the kindest and most genuine man his family had ever known.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Rosemary D'Allura; son Joseph Livezey, daughter Heather Livezey and grandson Tyler Livezey; step-daughter Johnelle Whipple and step-grandchildren Brendan and Julia Whipple; as well as his sister, Trish Willever.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Quakertown Friends Meeting, P. O. Box 520, Quakertown, NJ 08868.
As is Quaker tradition, James will have a simple, private burial. Arrangements and cremation services are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. He had his own formatting style for them I suspect.

I did a little formatting because each obit has its own style.

Now comes the tricky part - searching but NOT finding ones already addressed.
