He loved his time with his children, camping trips, sharing stories, playing games and watching their favorite TV shows with them. He was always there to offer guidance, support and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. He will always be appreciated for his honesty, memorable sense of humor and the many life lessons he bestowed on his children and grandchildren. DODD James "Jim" Lloyd Dodd, 86, passed away on September 4, 2023 in Courtland, VA. Jim was born in Ekalaka, Montana to the late Lloyd Tillford Dodd and Evelyn McCord Dodd. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Joan Louise Dodd; daughter, Pamela Janice Dodd, sister Jacqueline "Jackie" Leigh Eddy, and brother Jerry Leroy Dodd. Jim served 22 years with the United States Navy and retired as a Lieutenant Commander and was able to travel to many places and saw the world with Joan and their children. A common love of dancing, including many years in which they taught others as Double D, was a key part of Jim and Joan' 61 years of marriage. ?Jim will be remembered as a true gentleman, smart, humble, and a friend to many. He grew up in Montana living the life of a true cowboy; working on ranches, riding horses, herding cattle, and bailing hay. From there, he moved on to the United States Navy, first as an enlisted electronic technician serving on two destroyers, followed by entry into the officer and submarine ranks. He completed many deterrent patrols aboard four different SSBN's during the Cold War. ?He was a lifelong aspiring musician, singer, and dancer. Playing his guitar, singing songs, and dancing or teaching dancing were the simple pleasures that brought out the best in him. We can still hear his bedside rendition of Old Shep. ?Left behind to cherish his memory are his sons and daughters in law, Michael Patrick Dodd and wife Trina and Kenneth Lloyd Dodd and wife Monique; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Patrick, Jamie, and Deven; great-granddaughters, Emersyn, Madelyn, Rosalyn, and Maryn.?The family invites you to join them for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E.
