ROHEN .. .. James D. Rohen, age 83, of Grand Rapids, MI has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 18, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Kathy (Ferguson) Rohen, children, Bill (Lisa) Rohen, children Hannah and Torin, Aaron (Susie) Rohen, children Brad, Jonny and Alyssa Poliski, Ethan (Julie) Rohen and children, Harrison (fiancé Kailey Tepper), and Cooper; siblings, Jeff (Lori) Rohen, Jerry (Patty) Rohen, Janice (Jeff) Martin; sister-in-law, Bev Ferguson, brother and sister in law, Bob and Edie Ferguson, brother in law Bernie Patterson and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, James W. Rohen and Helen (Doran) Rohen, his sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Robert Hoekstra, sister Judith Patterson, brother-in-law, James Ferguson, and niece Stacy Hoonhorst.
Jim graduated in 1957 from Grand Rapids Catholic Central. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1959, having served on the USS Conger until 1963. A lifetime career as a master plumber started once he was discharged and he then retired from River City Mechanical in September of 2012. Jim’s passion was being a part of the Knights of Columbus Council 4362 and was also part of the AMVETS Post 126.

His family will remember him for his love for golf, shooting pool, playing cards, and his greatest love for watching his grandchildren participate in sports and activities. The family would like to invite family and friends on Wednesday, August 23, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm for visitation with a rosary at 7pm at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids MI 49546. A funeral service will take place the following day on Thursday, August 24, at 11am with a one-hour visitation prior at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1935 Plymouth Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506.

AYCOCK .. .. Joe Edward Aycock was born in Greensboro, North Carolina to Wiley and Minnie Aycock. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy in 1955. While in the Navy, Joe was assigned to Submarine Service and retired in 1980 at the rank of Lt. Commander.
After the Navy he worked for Lockheed Martin at Cape Canaveral, Florida managing test flight operations for the Ballistic Submarine Fleet until 1998. He loved his family, Volksmarch walking, traveling, and cruising. He is survived by his wife, Arlene of 66 years; his daughter Elizabeth Carellas (Peter) and grandchildren Stephanos, Alexandros, Helena; his son William Aycock (Charis), grandchildren Wyatt, Tyler (Yani), Garrett (Nia), and great-grandchild Lydia; sisters Ann, Marsha, and Betty-Jean; several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, and sisters Sally, Lou-Ellen, Mini. A memorial service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 5655 Stadium Pkwy, Melbourne, FL on Saturday October 28, 2023 at 11:00AM. Private interment will take place with full military honors at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL at a later date.


HYNES .. .. Donald Vincent Hynes, 86, of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away suddenly at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023. He was a beloved life partner, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many.
Donald was born April 24, 1937, in Union Township, New Jersey, to the late Frank and Edith Hynes. To many, he was known as Uncle Donny or Uncle Sonny. He was known for his loving, thoughtful and helpful ways for his family, friends or anyone who needed his help all through his 86 years.
He took great pride in serving his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1955 to 1961. He served on various ships including submarines and aircraft carriers.
After serving his country, he enjoyed raising his family, coaching soccer, softball and football, doing home improvements and landscaping. He worked for Federal Plastics in New Jersey for 24 years before retiring to Orlando, Florida, for 15 years. In Orlando he worked for Sea World where he truly enjoyed meeting so many people and working close to the Clydesdale horses.
Donald is survived by his life partner for over 28 years, Julie Lappine; one son, Ryan Hynes; grandchildren, Abby, Logan and Brady, all of New Jersey; brother, Michael Bender, of New Jersey; nieces and nephews, Tim (Janice) Terry, of Cookeville, Fred (Alma) Fellner, Kathy (Kenny) Vogler, Lorene(Bob) Dykes, Donald Paul (Patty) Fellner, Eddie Fellner and Kenny and Ricky Fellner (deceased), Sean (Nancy) Kernan, Kevin and Gary Kernan, Gwen Anderson and Bo (Angela) Price (deceased); and many great and great-great nieces and nephews and many friends.
His legacy is one of love for his life partner, family and friends and will be deeply missed by all that knew him and loved him.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at the Dyer chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. His family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time.

DOWNS .. .. Joseph T. Downs, 71, of Bellingham, MA, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Born in Natick, MA, Joseph was the son of the late Robert Charles and Rita Elizabeth (Hayes) Downs.
Joseph was a veteran of the United States Navy.  During the 1970’s Joe served as a nuclear reactor operator on the USS George Washington Carver submarine (SSBN 656) based in Rota, Spain. After serving in the Navy, Joe worked as a software engineer in different startup companies as well as larger network companies.  Joe retired from his last role as principal engineer at Crossbeam Systems in Boxborough Mass.
Music played an important role in Joe’s life.  He played guitar and piano but it was the bass that he enjoyed the most.  Joe was known as “one of the best bass players around”.  Joe’s bass playing improved the rhythm section of many local bar bands over the last 45 years.  He will be sorely missed by the music community.
Joe also excelled in physics and mathematics.  Solving mathematical problems was one of his passions, but for the past 50 years he always looked forward to his yearly camping trips to Maine with his lifelong friends.  Thankfully, he was able to make that trip for the last time in August.
He is survived by three brothers, Robert Downs of Bedford, MA, John Downs of Bellingham, MA and David Downs of Denver, CO, and three sisters, Maureen O’Neil of Brookline, NH, Rita Bell of Holliston, MA, and Helen Downs of Sarasota, FL, and many nieces and nephews He was also the brother of the late Charles Downs, Daniel Downs, Jeanne Finnerty and Anna Downs.
He will be deeply missed by his best friends of 55 years, John Burke and Bob Coffin. 
Joe is also survived by his friend Hien Bui who will miss him dearly.
Visiting hours will take place on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 4-7 PM at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, NATICK COMMON. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 12:45 PM at the Bourne National Cemetery.  Please arrive at the cemetery by 12:30. The service is 15 minutes long.
